Since Elite: Dangerous has essentially sold me on OR I hope they start producing decent retail sets soon.

Does anyone have an idea what OR will cost? I know its early but I'm debating whether or not to get Track-IR (I think ED will eventually support it), or go for OR if its not priced out of the average blokes price range!
Nothing has been said officially, but rumor has it Q3 or Q4 2014 and between $US300 and $US450
Yeah I've seen speculative prices ranging from £150 to £1000

I think Track-Ir was an expensive piece of kit when it first came out (can get v5 for £120 now), so hopefully once the early buying frenzy dies down OR will become reasonably priced.

OR looks to be potentially amazing, but if they price themselves out of the market, it may only be taken up by a few people. It's a tricky thing to get right, but if they get the pricing right to attract enough people.. $300 - $400 is fairly expensive for a lot of people. Or if you compare it to a monitor that gives you surround vision, I suppose it's not. Stack'em high, sell'em cheap..
On what basis you have this feeling? Production scaling is costly (therefore additional funding is needed), however when it calms down it offers enormous savings. Therefore companies usually "eat up" initial costs, and set reasonable street price (my prediction it will be 200 - 300 USD). They are looking for mass appeal, and price is very important to them. To compare - Sony new headset is planned to cost whooping 700 - 1000 USD (as I have heard).
Still, no release date, which make me to question "next year" stance. However, things move very fast in that business, so they will just announce two weeks prior roll out. In competition out there, I think OR developers will keep their cards close to the chest.

I mean, can you imagine it?....your wife says she is going to visit her Mother for a hour or so...she says "Bye, babe, see you in a hour" you wait for the door to shut behind her, then you grab yourself a can outta the fridge and stride upstairs, four-at-a-time and slide your big, black screen over your eyes, pop on the cans over your head and immerse yourself into the world of the ELITE.
An hour later, you feel a tap on your shoulder and your wife is asking "What the f%*%k happened to the furniture, and why is there no back door?

Alpha update brings 3D support (Oculus Rift, 3D TV, and gen3D) and Track IR support!

Does the SBS 3d have much of a performance hit? Also does the loss of horizontal resolution impact the visuals much?.

Few people trying it out haven't reported any performance hits, it works as advertised.
