I'd rather have one for SC assistIf we only had key binding for docking request...
Yes please... That to...I'd rather have one for SC assist
Autodock is too slow and doesn't understand peak performance like using shields as brakes.
To be fair, back in the 21st century less than 5% landings were on autoland.Back in the 21st century nobody complained about autolanding planes...
I don't hate autodock and actually have no issue in others using it if that's what they want to do. I just prefer not to use it myself as I enjoy manual landing, especially on outposts. I've been using flight assist a lot recently just because it saves so much time entering signal sources.
What? You can use shields as brakes?
Why, should it be?Is docking even a challenge?

Every Build I Create Has Auto Dock
Real pilots start off with auto-dock because they need it, then do without it to check they have the skills to dock manually, then go back to using auto-dock because it's convenient. Also supercruise assist.
Years ago, I was combat elite, and a heavy hitting powerplay underminer, and my interdiction patrol ship had a big scoop, a big interdictor and a basic docking computer on it. It wasn't that I couldn't land, it was just a nice way of getting a couple of minutes rest, enjoy the luxury. The thing is, I'm not a real pilot. So when I arrive from whatever the hell I was doing, for however long I've been doing it, I want a goddam computer to dock my ship and a bit of classical music to play me in. It's a lifestyle. In a way, it's a personal mini-challenge. It is a slot permanently reserved, wasted and frivolously enjoyed for no reason any rational pilot would ever approve of.
I fly 100% flight assist off, and even yet, on my mission runner ships I often carry an advanced docking computer, ususally I've got 3 or 4 missions onboard, so if I'm being lazy ir efficient, as I approach mission destination 1, I request docking, activate docking computer, and hit the galaxy map to plot a route to the next mission's destination.I know real pilots don't auto dock
I salute every single one of you anti-auto dockers. You are better people, and certainly better pilots.
Credit goes to Stanley Kubrik for his use of it in the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey". I've never seen the movie, but I have seen others referring to this clip:Whoever thought of using this piece in the game is an absolute star. The Beautiful Blue Danube - André Rieu - YouTube
Real pilots don't use auto dock (sorry, had to say it)
I've said numerous times that what we need is an electronics rack, that can in itself has slots, and can be populated with computer modules, such as autodock and limpet controllers, somewhat akin to a server rack in the world of today's enterprise computing.Yeah, I don't think the modular design of outfitting is particularly elegant these days (my personal bugbear are those large size sensors), and I do agree that DC/SCA should've really been made standard ship comptuer features as opposed to individual modules (given we got the additional slots so outfitting balancing was only impacted slightly for the larger ships). I also wish we had a universal limpet controller, and instead would just buy limpets of the various functionalities instead.
