Grinding isn't the player's fault

"You cannot seriously think that FDev intended to build this game primarily to serve the needs of the Rain Men of the audience, who enjoy repetition above all. :)"

No, I think they intended to build a game for people who don't feel the need to do those activities repeatedly in the first place.

Yet designed a game entirely based around repetative activities...

Hmmm hows that one work then?

It's the same as 80's elite, just looks better. Same vapid meaningless and targetless gameplay. Just made prettier.

If thats all a player base needs, im glad to say I doubt I'll be part of it for much longer.

Shame considering im known and respected on my platform despite being a murder hobo.

6 months from now, i expect ED's player base to be at an all time low.

The reason? There isnt any engaging gameplay past PvP or doing each mission the first time.

It might be the same who start the threads, but a vast proportion comment agreeing. Or does that fact slip you by?

It needs changing. Some might be content to do sweet sh*t all for hours at a time of thier life. Most are not. Thats also VERY basic.

No because it's the same people responding to each thread who start the other threads.

A game with thousands of players doesn't need to change because a couple of dozen players thought they were buying a mainstream MMO.

We arent asking for a mainstream MMO.

We are asking for our limited time on this f*ing planet to be respected.

Which it is not.

Clear enough?

If not, don't bother quoting me again, you'll get flat out ignored.

So they added some new Guardian modules to the game for the sake of the people who, by definition, will never be able to use it. I get it. Seems pretty pointless though. Or were it the people who don't feel the need to do those activities repeatedly, and yet they do it repeatedly nonetheless? Confusing... :)

You aren't forced to play this game. Thus, no one disrespects your time. Seriously, stop this fake high horse pretence. People doing it to themselves, they want to keep insisting to play games same way they play all of them. It just not gonna happen. move on.

I considered pointing out that skyrim has loading screens, but decided not to follow the goalposts wherever you push them next.

I'm staggered that you eventually decided not to point out an utterly irrelevant thing like that.
It seems to be a missed opportunity to once again misrepresent what I said.

If it's irrelevant why bother repeatedly whinging about them in ED (a game that self-evidently has to have them) ?.

Quote me misrepresenting anything you've said.

Sorry matey, but when the Devs use the phrase "We dont want to waste your time" just before introducing massively convoluted systems gives us the EXACT RIGHT to be pi*sed off with them.

Every right. They make money off US. We don't make it off them. Erefore, it would be wise to listen to those that pay your wages.

I payed for this game, so I will complain when i think i'm being done over. Same as you do with anything else in life.

C'mon man.

If your brand new car had some stuff missing off it, youd complain, same logic, different application.

You are the one not respecting your time though. FDev can't force you not to grind. Even if they make the grind quicker, you'll still be grinding, and it will still be your own choice to do so.

You want the game to be built around progression, but that isn't this game.

No matter how much shorter the grind became, you'd just get to that G5 Corvette or whatever your goal is, and find that all that's changed is now you can grind even faster, and you'd still be bored.

It's a video game, anyone who says the idea isn't to waste your time (enjoyably) is just buttering you up.

Wasting time is the whole point.

In reply to :

If you have to do the exact same utterly boring thing (like the guardian base scanning) 100 times to unlock something, then it doesn't matter whether you choose to do it 50 times a day to get the reward in 2 days or once a day to get it in 100 days, the grind is the same. The only difference is that if you do it the round-the-corner way, it will take much longer to be able to grab the gadget you were after.

That's not me misrepresenting what you said, that's you inventing a fictitious number out of thin air.

Time you enjoy wasting isnt wasted time, i 100% agree, but at this point, it feels like i've payed to hear developer promises and not much else.

Hence the discourse.

I enjoy the game, not all of it so I avoid things I don't like as with every other game. But overall it's the best game I've ever played, it also came on the back of twenty years with nothing decent in the genre at all.

It may be that games of this sheer scale can never stray far from RNG and fairly simplistic missions and things, as there's just too much in a galaxy sized galaxy for that sort of detail. But in a vast open world space game that's exactly what I expect, so it really doesn't bother me.

Here’s the thing from my point of view: Why would Frontier “respect” your time, when you clearly don’t respect your own? Every time someone claims they spend over 90% of their time grinding at this game so they can have fun, I can’t help but think, “Do you have so much free time that you’d waste it on something you don’t enjoy?”

I certainly don’t. My free time is precious to me, precisely because I have so little of it these days. I’m not about to waste it on something that I don’t enjoy. And yet, here I am, playing Elite: Dangerous.

Why? Because I feel that Frontier that not only respects my time, they also respect my intelligence. There’s plenty of room in this game to improve your efficiency at getting the things you want in this game, by developing your skills at the game. Which is ultimately what I bought this game for in the first place.

Yeah i get where you're coing from, albeit im only a youngster by comparison to most in here but even i wanted a good space game for most of my youth.
The game is a great project.

But there are too many things left half done and half polished. I might have higher expectations for games being younger, but to me it's really not acceptable to have programmed a game that intentionally trolls its player base with convoluted systems and buggy gameplay.

Also it's really not fair on your player base to expect them to devote the kind of time serious progression in this game takes. It's simply too much. People hae lives and jobs and families, they want to play a game yeah, but not feel like they miss out on so much of it due to time constraints.

That stuff should have been left in Alpha.

It's a great game yes, but there are vast swarths of it that would NEVER make it through quality control for most companies bar valve (Who seem not to have any at all).

Mostly i complain on here in hope that one of them reads it an goes, "alright, maybe these hundreds of guys have a point" and start to make serious efforts to fix it. It could be one of the greatest games ever to have been made, but its a long way off that yet IMO. It needs the TLC it's had stolen from it for the past 2 years by Jurrassic Bork.
