For the supposed sequel's roster:
I really hope we don't lose any animals from PZ1...
Unless, its slight changes such as Bengal Tiger to Sumatran Tiger.
I also hope for bigger DLCs with more "clones." Like what they did with the butterflies.
Planet Zoo 2 should definitely have all the current animals in its roster (195) or at least the habitat animals, look what happened with JWE2, it had almost all the dinos from the first base game + DLCs except 4, one in the deluxe version and the other 3 in a DLC, and I'm very active in the JWE2 community and it was something super criticized and even months and years later, the community is very upset, the ankylodocus for example although it had a huge redesign, people hated that they sold it again.

So imagine that, if PZ2 had a lot of dlcs with the animals from the current game, even if they were improved ×1000 the community would get very upset, plus it's not cool not to have them in the beginning, and that's my second point, imagine that the game doesn't start with all the animals, even if there are a lot of new ones, it would be a huge step backwards, why remove species from the game when they are already modeled, animated and so on? at least this applies to the animals from the last 3 years of dlcs, since the Europe pack, almost everything is fine, it would be a very bad move to remove some animals like a Spectacled Caiman, and lastly a zoo game needs a variety of species, so I don't think we'll see any species disappear.

Let's say we get most animals from PZ1, but some are scrapped. I'd personally not lose sleep over the following habitat species:
  1. Himalayan Brown Bear - Obvious reasons.
  2. Formosan Black Bear - Niche subspecies, and we have the two other Asian bears.
  3. Black Wildebeest - Cool but I don't need two wildebeests.
  4. Springbok - Very similar to the Thomson's gazelle. Keeping just one seems fair.
  5. Saiga - Not found in captivity.
  6. Black Rhinoceros - Currently preferable over the white (better quality), but in the end quite similar.
  7. Arctic Wolf - Doppelganger.
  8. Wild Water Buffalo - Identical in looks to the domestic one, but this one is too rare in zoos.
Other species that would be a bit of a shame to lose, but worth it if it means we get a higher demand species:
  1. Nyala - A cool antelope, but not necessarily the most essential.
  2. Siberian Tiger - Two subspecies are nice but not essential. Bengal could be replaced by Sumatran.
  3. Striped Hyena - I personally think one hyena would suffice.
  4. Aldabra Giant Tortoise - It'd be a pity, but we still have Galapagos.
  5. Red-Ruffed Lemur - Nice for variety but not essential.
  6. Black-and-White-Ruffed Lemur - See above.
  7. Dall Sheep - Cool and original, but we have more popular caprines.
  8. Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman - A pretty unique crocodile, but I'd prefer the others.
  9. Nile Lechwe - Same reason as nyala.
  10. Colombian White-Faced Capuchin - Provided we get other NW monkeys, I can miss this one.
  11. Dama Gazelle - I actually love this species, but out of the African desert antelopes it'll be the first one to go.
  12. Proboscis Monkey - Actually one of my favourite animals, but other species make more sense in a zoo game.
And then there's the barnyard animals which are great, if only we had different subspecies.

I hope 99% of the current roster is kept for the sequel. I will be extremely disappointed if it doesn't. The point of a sequel is to expand the world of zoos (birds, monkeys and aquariums) which will be very limited if we have to request again the same species we already have.

In my opinion the PZ2 dlc should contain a mix of birds, aquarium creatures and terrestrial animals so that we can take our zoos to a new more advanced level and not have more variety in terms of birds and aquariums but losing the terrestrial animals that we have already achieved (and paid).

For example, what's the point of being able to recreate an area of Southeast Asia with new species of birds and fish if we have lost land species that we already had in the original game. We will still have an incomplete Southeast Asia section.

Other species that would be a bit of a shame to lose, but worth it if it means we get a higher demand species:

Striped Hyena - I personally think one hyena would suffice.
Nooo, not my baby. 😭

Honestly, I just cannot get excited for the PZ2 for this reason. I do not want to loose any of my favourite animals because someone at Frontier will think: they will not miss this one.

  2. Black Rhinoceros - Currently preferable over the white (better quality), but in the end quite similar.

Nile Lechwe - Same reason as nynyalaI
Is this of what i talked about, Why frontier will delete some gold quality animals like these??

The team worked hard for these to look like they are in the game and frontier knows it, so the best thing is just copy and paste in the sequel becasue they are so okey righg know ( models, sounds, rigs)

Frontier wins, we win

Striped Hyena is one of my favorites too. I remember being so happy when the Grasslands pack was announced! I saw the Maned Wolf silhouette on the art and then read the rest of the species and saw that one of my (at the time) top four habitat animals made it in as well was so exciting. Honestly Grasslands pack was the most excitement I felt during this game. It was way more fun than 2023 and 2024 combined. Yet, some people think we should get rid of the Striped Hyena because "we don't need a SECOND hyena." Yet a FOURTH lemur is perfectly fine... That is also one of my fears with PZ2 is that it will cut favorites.
I'll say it now; if Frontier substantially cuts from the roster of the sequel (especially in favor of 2023 and 2024 rosters that I didn't enjoy as much) I won't buy the sequel. I will just enjoy PZ1.

but I hope in the long run they all make it back.
I'm on the fence regarding this statement in particular. We all have favourites, sure, but there are some species I probably won't even notice being gone if they don't come back.

My biggest concern is that they just do a blanket wash of fur and skin textures but otherwise simply port the current roster over. I'd sacrifice the entire North American roster for a better orangutan.

Why do you hate me that much? 😭

I'm pro better OrangUtan fur (and will download a replacement mod for PZ 1 soon), but don't you touch my faboulous North American roster.

I feel looking at JWE2 and Planet Coaster 2 is a good bet here. In JWE2 MOST species made it over and there were additional new ones.
Planet Coaster 2 is yet to be seen, but probably a better indicator, as it is an own IP game and we will have a similar amount of DLCs and different rides etc.

It's also relatively safe to say, I think, that Frontier will keep optimising their process of making animals, so we can expect more animals without them investing more. I mean, look at the Spectacled Bear, the African Leopard, the Sloth Bear.... all perfect models in my opinion at a time where they will pour as little money as possible into each DLC. '

Other than optic I just hope they get their act together re soundwork again. And, as I said, start listening to their customers again more. The Planet Coaster people are not amused about the intense path branding, as this issue was solved already it seemed at the early stages of Planco 1. So Frontier should have known the Planet Coaster logo everywhere is not appreciated.

Has this been discussed yet - should we set up a metawishlist for PZ2 features we'd like to see?

It seems timing is key with these wishlists because it looks like Frontier used the very first metawishlist to influence the animals they picked, but possibly not later versions. If they're starting work on the game now it might be a good time to combine and order all our hopes and dreams for new features, with the hope that it might have an impact on how they design the game and what they prioritise early on?

What do you all think?

They are most definately not starting to work on it, bt are already working on it for 1-2 years I assume. So it's too much to expect they totally lean onto a metawishlist. However, in general, I think it's a very good idea, because some things could be changed and tweaked still. Especially if we have one eye on Planet Coaster.

Personally, I think a Meta Wishlist only makes sense though, if it is really really well organised. Like @random goat did it for example. Without them, I'm sure we wouldn't have come as far. It needs to be easily accessabile to Frontier, other than those 200 page discussion threads. So we need someone to do it who is good in managing such list and has the time and will power to do it regularly and for the next years.
