Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

What i don't understand is how you get to be almost 50 (we are comparable ages) and not played a better space game than pre-alpha SC?

I mean, Elite, X (starting with the original X and going up), Tachyon: Beyond the Fringe (to my mind, one of the best single player space games ever made), and several others that could be mentioned. And that's just the in-cockpit games, never mind the other types of space games, especially the strategy ones, whether its EvE, Homeworld, or Endless Space.
I'm fond of the beautiful scenery + ship interior + EVA as they were handled and used by SC. The seamless transition between all those gameplays is a huge selling point for me. For instance, one of the mission that impress me a lot is when you have to seek corpses in EVA in a wreck floating in dark space, your ship stopped near the wreck to light it. I like also a lot doing some FPS so having a space game + fps at the same time is a must (EDO is a huge improvment of Elite for me).

I like a lot X4 but it has no multi.
I don't know Tachyon, I will look at it.

You must be new around here, or trying to sneakily rewrite history? 😋 Here a few examples of CIG, and Chris Roberts, doing a general fidelity claim about the game and/or some of its key features. It is not hard to find with a simple search including the words fidelity, chris roberts and cig or star citizen.

The thing is CIG and Chris Roberts have abused the poor word so much and so often that by know there is barely not an inch of the project not being described as such at one point or another. Backers use the term because CIG and Chris Roberts do, abusively so, in the first place.

August 2014: "While continued funding is necessary to build Star Citizen at the current level of AAA fidelity and no compromises,..."
July 2015 : "At the fidelity we are going for we are definitely breaking new ground, but luckily we are working with some of the leading companies and people in the area of scanning real people and bringing their performances into 3D in the most life-like way."
November 2016: "No other game tries to deliver the scale and fidelity that Star Citizen does with its detailed worlds that can have you walking through a dense jungle, wandering the dark alleyways of a futuristic city, landing on a space station orbiting a moon, or piloting a space ship across vast star systems teeming with activity, all from a seamless first person viewpoint."
October 2020 : "No other game has all this functionality at once, done to the level of fidelity that we deliver"

Etc etc etc
Fidelity to what ?
I still don't understand the fidelity argument when we talk about imaginary planets...
Stanton can be bigger than Jupiter or smaller than Mercury. Knowing that the scale used in SC is 1/6 doesn't change the fact this planet can be any size bigger than a dwarf planet as explained here.

I know a lot of backer use the term fidelity but I struggle to find relevant reference where CIG talked about fidelity as a "must follow" vision. I find some talks about specific topics but I can't find the general claim about CGI's fidelity in every aspect of the game as you reference it...
so? are you still going to pretend not knowing about that? after all you conveniently did not respond on it after being called out as being wrong and exposed as being a hypocrite as usual.

LittleAnt may be happy with Star Citizen, I don't know, but it doesn't alter my perception of Star Citizen and its development.

I still expect a game and not an unfinished software toy.

Look SC do get the transition right between foot and ship, they do have some very talented artists, what they don’t have is project management skills or the right people to make functional NPC’s and game loops.

It’s a dollhouse, and when we get the mile wide and inch deep about ED (true a few years ago) now, I just roll my eyes. I would love SC to be what they imagine it to be, but it’s not, and it’s not going to any day soon, what about TOW? Let’s see when we can test Frontline solutions in EDO, if that is half of what I think it will be, then a lot of new players will be playing ED and not SC.

He means programming that into a space game should not be challenging for the developers. :)
Ah, my bad, I read too quickly across that monster thread...

Just saw quickly a vid with CiG devs talking about refuel/repair. It's "early days". Haha. They just barely started high level design. Remember when they sold repair and refuel ships, years ago ? And their gameplay was "just around the corner" ?

Hmm... that comment is too low fidelity for my liking. Let's bring it back to SC levels of fidelity...

Whoa. The fidelity meme has a life of its own now.

The thing with SC development is that it is taking so long and there have been so many blunders by CIG and CR, it is all too easy to forget some of them, even the most egregious ones. I presume CR is counting on that going forward.

Never understood why the baddies called their own side of the Force the "Dark Side". I mean what is the appeal? How could Vader expect Luke to join just like that? The Sith should have hired CIG´s marketing to sell it and maybe call it instead the "Fun Side" or the "Cool Guys Side" or some such. But the dark side??? Come on Vader!

Cue Mitchell & Webb 'We have skulls on our uniforms. Are we the baddies?' meme :)

Ever see that Simpsons episode where the town dump filled up with rubbish and ended up overflowing the town of Springfield? They just moved the whole town a few miles away. 2 Native Americans watched them leaving and one says to the other 'Dont look behind you', he does and starts sobbing, 'I told you not to look'

People know full well what they are doing but it suits them to just ignore it and pretend its business as usual and all perfectly normal. No consequences suits the majority and better to attack the minority who do speak out as FUDsters or other 'insults' instead of dealing with the facts and the overflowing trash.
