Thargoid Attacks: Where, When and What you can do about it

There's a choke point, to get in and out of the Witch Head, to avoid the permit-locked systems. Could that be it?

But all they could do would be to increase the interdictions  unless ......... interdictions turn hostile ... all those shieldless haulers !
Nope, still (somewhat) passive. Was just hyperdicted going from C1-9 to C1-8. No hostilities.

However, it was rather different from my usual encounters. Instead of a single cyclops, or a medusa and three cyclopes, it was a single basilisk alongside a single cyclops, which is extremely rare (for me). Not sure if RNG, or an actual coincidence, but I thought I'd make a note of it anyway.

One possible analysis of the targets:

  • 2 witch head targets are the centre of the Witch Head NHSS shell (as Redden said)
  • Sterope II is pretty close to Merope - within 4 Ly - which is the centre of the Merope NHSS shell
  • HIP 18502 / pleiades sector MI-S b4-1/ hip 17481 all equidistant from Borrego's Vision
I guess we'll see if Borrego is a coincidence next week
The selection of the EEs are a bit confusing this week. Has anybody found beacons in these systems? If I remember correctly, someone human must have placed beacons there - about 1000 km around - what?

Edit 15.08. 3305 07:33 UT : And nothing new this morning?!

Is anyone else finding that Cyclops (I don't know about the others) are using their lightning more?
Also is the swarm being able to shoot you from over 5km a new thing??

Just stumbled across this which I find.... interesting...

I have just outfitted a ship for my first attempt at fighting Thargoid scouts. Trouble is, I can't find any scouts to fight. I was advised to check the GALNET page in my Codex, but the Thargoid Activity Report section there is empty. Can someone please tell me how I can identify systems which have current Thargoid scout activity?

As the first post says:

You can also find NHSS all over the Pleiades - within about 166 Ly of Merope, but it won't help save any systems. Also n the Witch Head Nebula, up to 70 Ly, mainly near the new stations.

They were teeming with Thargoids this morning - certainly they one with Ezra in it.
I think I must have been doing something wrong before. I am currently travelling through the Pleiades Sector and I am getting signals in every system. Think I'll stop off at a starport somewhere here and have my first (and possibly last...) look at a Thargoid. Thanks again for your help.

The NHSS bubble in the Pleiades has shrunk from 175 LYs (not 166) to about 100 LYs last time I checked (Aug 2nd).

If you were in the Pleiades when you couldn't find any, you may have just stumbled across a system with no NHSSs, even within the Merope bubble their are a few systems like that.
If you want to be sure of getting scouts only, limit yourself to NHSS threat 3 (2 scouts) or threat 4 (4 scouts), you can get NHSS threat 5 with 8 scouts (single icon in contacts list) but you can't reliably predict getting those AFAIK (you might end up with 4 scouts & an interceptor). You can also get 12 scout instances! (NHSS thr 6, single icon, sometimes scouts only). I've only had 1 go at those solo, it was pretty tricky to say the least! lol. I killed 7 in my mk2 Krait before I called for help, I had run out of SCBs & I didn't have the time to boost away & let the shields rebuild. Maybe next time ;).

It can be halted by ships. Its spawn point is static as long as you have ships in the instance aiming at it and then another ship dropping it in and out it has the possibility to spawn in on its static spawn point. So far xeno scanner has worked and also a sample was taken stating a basilisk tissue sample. Multiple ships with a lot of medium gauss cannons fired on it and so far unable to exert any hearts known to this point.
