Thargoid Attacks: Where, When and What you can do about it

I noticed the hotter than usual thing, when I was there yesterday fooling around with my Viper, but then again I was constantly boosting and dodging the clouds of scouts.
Did notice something peculiar, which was probably a bug, one of the scouts was stationary above the base and it showed on radar as a hollow triangle, like it had a human pilot.

Dev spotted!!
JK, I've seen the stationary scout before over there, but it didn't have the hollow triangle, just a standard NPC one. Strange bugs are afoot over Palin's..

Does anyone else find their ship running unusually hot around Palin's old research base? At 1st I thought it was just because my engineered Imp eagle runs hot anyway + the gravity, but 2 cmdrs had the same thing in other ships which they said didn't normally happen.....

Pretty sure that's just the normal overheat mechanic that all ships encounter near certain planet surfaces. Fairly sure, anyway

Ah ok, well I was wondering that, although it would be useful if you could go there in a ship you know well to see if it is just that (y).

Ah that was you was it?! :) -

I thought I vaguely recognised the name, I was in the black imperial eagle (Blackbird SR-71) boosting around briefly (cmdr Mark P Dorling).
Oh yea & I saw the hollow red triangles a couple of times on scouts, plus some stuck underground & 1 invisible one!

Yup that was me! :)

Someone remind me, the interceptor aggro range is within 500m right?
If I'm right, after a hyperdiction, 1 goid aggro'd another by damaging it's swarm, they then both attacked & destroyed my defenseless & helpless Imp eagle just before systems came back on line! Btw, I checked my video, I was 505m away from it & at a standstill.

What caused them to deploy their swarms? Damage to their swarm doesn't aggro them. In a debris field they often lose a lot of thargons to collisions with debris but I've never seen one become aggressive after that.

Are people still having the new goid spawn at palin's? I have been having trouble getting an instance with the new goid or any interceptors at all to spawn at palin's. Usually ships spawn at all, occasionally a human ship will spawn, and very rarerly a ton of scouts will spawn.

It feels like a switch was flipped. Palin has been xeno-free-for-me for the past two days. I've hopped in a few times and seen nothing.

My video link (beware naughty words said to goids! ;), if you don't like that, stop the video at 50s, only the rebuy screen after that anyway, I should've chopped it, but no time atm.
Not sure about the 1st one's swarm, I've had that happen when I've got too close before, but I didn't this time!
Good point about the swarm & debris, maybe it was the damage to the 2nd (visible) goid that triggered the attack??

Brilliant video! Was that the COVAS you were 'arguing' with? Indeed, the lead interceptor was aggressive immediately after you dropped from hyperspace. It didn't even scan you. Maybe 505m was too close after all. It was a Hydra maybe Hydras want more distance?

Sometimes when dropping into an NHSS level 5 my ship almost collides with the interceptor. The interceptor then deploys its swarm but if I retreat to >500m it calms down and does a scan with the swarm still deployed.

Glad you liked it, lol. Not quite, it's an HCS voice pack for Voice attack narrated by Paul Darrow. He's most well known for playing Avon from Blakes 7, who was a cool but cutting and sarcastic character, he was very funny. His HCS character Minus is a very similar character and also very funny, although I wasn't in the mood for his quips at that point! :p

Well, AFAIK the range is 500m for all interceptors, unless that's been change recently? I might have to check that out later.
And yea I've found the same when getting too close & then backing off.
Earlier I thought that maybe the 2nd interceptor was made hostile by the swarm from the 1st one crashing into it, but I see it didn't go 'mad' until nearly 10s after the 1st Thargon hit.
So back to square one ;), but something else I noticed the 3rd (of 4) interceptors is partially visible on the left, & goes mad at the same time as the 2nd one.
That said, it is the 1st Interceptor that gets agitated at 26s, so I guess it started it,(though I've no idea why), then 10s later it goes mad & the other 2 (3?) join in and trash my Eagle.

Ah Blake's 7, good memories. Didn't recognise the voice. Too long ago probably.

Agressive Scouts cause interceptors to become aggressive too as soon as they enter an NHSSs. It probably works the same among interceptors in a wing (if Thargoids call it that).

I've been in an instance with a Hydra only a few times and that didn't last long. No time to test anything, just "RUN!!1!! AAAARRGGGHHHHH.... rebuy screen!".

It was not after hyperdictions but in an AXCZ. After the last wave of scouts an aggressive Hydra appeared. Also I dropped in a few NHSS threat 9's to see what was in them.

I just purposely went within 500m from a Basilisk at an NHSS thr6 & it ignored me! It wasn't until I went within 450m did it get annoyed......
Onto the tougher ones next.......

There's usually a delay between the interceptor finishing it's current action and reacting to your presence. It's not instantaneous.
