Errr, no they should definitely not remove the Thargoids! But they should definitely improve how we interact with them & the outcome.
I honestly don't care what they do with them as long is it stops screwing with my BGS.

You do realise that the Thargoids are the FGS - right? (Foreground Simulation)

Isn't the REAL problem - Thargoids DON'T screw with the BGS nearly enough...Thargoid attacks happen almost in complete isolation...go to a targetted system and watch the Wedding Barges perform their ceremonies...watchj traders jump on the "Boom" state Gold rush while every other USS is hostile Scouts or Interceptors...
The Thargoids really SHOULD screw with the BGS a whole lot more!

It's not fun knowing all the months of hard work you've done is being destroyed by something you can't control.
I completely sympathize with your position, but please remember that we have no idea what the goalposts were. So much data was going unreported that we simply don't know what the actual numbers are - and now that reporting has improved, we think we're hitting the numbers when we were probably off to begin with. The Steam player numbers are two-thirds of what they were a couple months ago, I'm willing to play player count is down on all platforms. Combine that with players getting distracted by a shiny beta (for the last time, no, progress in beta doesn't transfer) there's a lot of hidden help that's just no longer there.but clearly FDev is moving to goalposts to make that impossible.
They recorded over 6500 kills in CD 54-471 but fewer than that for Brib. It's possible that the actual number required is something like 7000. We just don't know.
They had a similar situation last week that indicated the number was 6000, before that it was 5000 that successfully defended. The number has to be moving.
Only if no-one other than them is killing Thargoids. If they only represent 10% of Thargoid hunters, then the total number of kills needed might be 50,000 and whether they personally get 5k or 6k won't affect the overall chances of success very much. They had a similar situation last week that indicated the number was 6000, before that it was 5000 that successfully defended. That actually makes sense. Considering that current beta might be a good reason that many of the independent tharg-hunters are drawn away, we might blame the current losses entirely on the beta.
I'm really encouraging the use of the Canonn USS Survey, which is hopefully driving reporting up but...
