Seen someone posting on the xbox bug report bit of the site that they were having issues with the docking comp. Aparrently it is unreliable in the PC version according to the ED wiki page, and thus I am guessing unreliable in the xbox version also?

You see this in the PC forums. I have used a docking comp in both the PC and XBOX versions and never had a problem once. It even flies through the gate to one side to avoid incoming traffic if needed. Must have a few hundred docks using one and still no problem in my cobra mk 3.

Well not played XBox version, I guess it's possible the AI isn;t in so it's not enabled yet but.

Internal components => Sort by name =>"Standard docking computer" ie S not D

Not sure if some people only read the title - but i have already posted/confirmed 100% there is DC on xbox version

I have one - i use it all the time

So far flawlessly

Thanks, guy, got one in the Bath (or similar name) system. TRied it for about half afternoon and it seems very reliable, at least with my Type-6.
It also puts you in queue if any other ship is using the station enter door. Cool. :)

Another question: since it seems to be so rare, will it be possible to keep it when switching ships or I'll need to go and find another place selling it?

I would humbly suggest you do something that doesn't require you to watch tv on the side though.... :) like bounty hunting or combat zones, or mining or missions or... well anything else than trading. Or maybe your station distances are wrong. I never had time to watch tv when trading between stations that are both <200 ls from their suns.

I'll do bounty, but first I want to save some money to equip the bounty ship. :)
After hyperspace I've not time as well as I've to align ship to space station but docking is still a boring procedure (even with computer). :)

Auto Dock

I have been having Auto dock fail a lot and slam me into the landing pad nose first at full speed, this only happens on small outposts, auto dock works fine on the bigger stations.

Is this a bug or should i not use it on the smaller outposts as it is supposed to have a chance to fail during docking ?

Bug. Report it to FD and namely to Mistress of the Minions (Sarah Jane Austin - the AI developper in FD). I am sure that she will fix this ASAP.

i find it strange that you have had trouble finding one, i see them almost everywhere i go, but then again i run the LAVE - FUJIN route everyday which is a pretty decent gap, anyhway, i bought one for my T6 and never had any issues, except once i was falling asleep in my chair while playing and accidentally increased my speed and crashed into a wall inside a station..... that was funny, anyone saying its unreliable is poppycock, docking computer is great

YES!

The "Standard Docking Computer" should be an available option in the "OUTFITTING" section of most stations. I bought one the second day of playing this on the XB1 and it was a Godsend for me! Not because I was unable to dock my ship manually, but because the hitchy/glitchy graphic performance of the XB1 version is so bad, flying is not an enjoyable experience for me, and trying to dock your ship with the twitchy stick behavior of the current build was annoying.

After buying the DC, I can just sit back and let the DC handle the entire process. Saves a lot of time, and at the same time I am not being constantly reminded that the frame rates in this first XB1 build are embarrassingly bad!

Report it. I recall the DC had troubles with outposts prior to 1.3 although different than what you describe. I'd recommend powering it off for outposts or just selling it back. If you're trading, you're loosing hundreds if not thousands of credits every time you dock with the component slot it occupies.

i think what is happening is you panicing when th eDC is at outposts it will aim you nose first from way above the pad if you touch your flight controls it will disengage the DC and thats why your slaming into the pad

No i'm not touching the controls, I know when the auto dock works fine it comes into the outpost pads nose first then turns at the last minute to land, but it's a 50/50 chance now that it comes in nose first at full power and just bounces off the pad smashing the nose.

Anyway started a bug report and see what comes of it.

Avory, not Austin.
Also, I haven't had this happen at Outposts. Sometimes the AI does nosedive towards to platform, but it slows down and corrects its alignment.

Strange...for the most part it is smooth for me. I get the odd framerate stutter and my sound sometimes breaks up at busy RES sites as I bounty hunt....but that's the only problem I have.

The only problem I have with the docking comp is that it is too fast. I find it strangely relaxing sitting there letting the comp fly the ship as I listen to the beautiful Blue Danube play. For those not aware the DC has always played the Blue Danube as it docked in in all previous versions of Elite...right from the original. That came about I suspect because Stanley Kubrick used it for his famous docking sequence in the film 2001 : Space Odyssey.

Back in the original elite I had on the Amiga, I used to set the DC going way out from the space station. Back then there was no limit on distance to dock because you never had to ask permission to dock...you just did it. I would just sit back, listen and enjoy the ride.

Re module swapping.

In the PC/Mac version, you can sell modules from one ship, change ships, then rebuy the module for the new ship at the same cost.
If you save the game and exit, or leave the station then the rebuy option is lost.
Obviously, in beta there may be differences...

Re docking computer.
The DC has been improved enormously from the PC beta version:-
It has rammed me into the station walls a couple of times (non-fatal),
It can dock you when activated inside the station (ideal for smuggling and silent runing
It docks quickly at outposts.

WOW! You go WAY BACK with this game don't you! I owned an AMIGA myself back in the day. Used it for music software in my 16 track recording studio at the time. Great platform in its day! :)

I agree that the docking sequence should be slowed down to a more realistic pace, so it handles everything a little more gracefully. It also has a nasty habit when installed on my Cobra Mk. III of running head on into those advertising billboard buoys that line to approach to some of the larger stations. My DC just plows right though those if they happen to be in the way during final approach. Its really obvious when you watch this happen that the DC doesn't even know those billboards are there. I reported this as a bug, so hopefully they will look into the problem.

As for the frame rates... The machine I am running the game on is the same machine I have used on several internal/closed beta tests of some pretty well known IPs including GTA5 for XB1. The final build of GTA5 before retail release ran beautifully at a locked 30fps on this same console. If you have played or seen GTA5 in action you know it is considerably more demanding graphically than anything currently on offer in Elite Dangerous for XB1 to date.

So... Based on my literally decades of beta testing experiences, I can assure everyone that the current build of this game has some SERIOUS rendering engine coding issues. Not having any direct contacts with the developers because this is a PUBLIC beta, I can only guess at the causes.

My first thought was that the game has some rather SERIOUS hardware/software optimization issues. I have also been told by one of the veteran PC version users that the rendering engine being used in this game is proprietary component designed and coded by Frontier themselves.

Don't know why they didn't just buy a robust and proven engine like UNREAL or something similar. Any of those top tier award winning rendering engines could run a game as graphically basic as this current Elite for XB1 build without even breaking a sweat. Yet this Frontier proprietary engine is huffing and puffing just to open a menu while rendering a Star Trek like star field at the same time.

I'd be rather embarassed if I were Frontier. I was certainly taken aback by how rough the frame rates were the first time I played the game, and went to do a JUMP. That jump graphic sequence appears to be a "pre-rendered loop" yet the game can't manage to get through the sequence without choking. Like I said... Embarrassing, considering that the XB1 hardware is a relatively powerful piece of computer hardware.

Anyway... Lets hope that the next build runs at a solid/locked 30fps at the very least. Based on my experience with other XB1 games currently in closed beta, there is really no reason why Elite can't run at a locked 60fps. I see nothing in the rendered graphics that could be considered demanding for this console. ;)
