It's already known that the docking computer and the Clipper don't really get a long at the moment. I heard it should be fixed with the next update.
The Clipper is the ship I use most at the moment, so I know what you're talking about. That it takes longer than docking manually (although if you turn it on directly when you're within 7km, it never ever takes the full 8 minutes) I don't really mind.
That it slams me into the station every once in a while is of more concern. Only happens once every 20 or so times, but it takes my shields down the very last, very dim blue ring. Scary stuff.

Ive been using docker on anaconda since january, never had a reall issue it docked every time, from a few patches back it doesnt even clip the letterbox with shield anymore, and its even better now.

I do recall having some issues with my t9 but that was in january.

Sounds like it might be something related to the clipper then, my python dc works perfectly all the time. One thought though, if you're boosting towards the station from a weird angle it can't perform an impossible manoeuvre and maybe the only option at that point is contact.

Using it right now, only had that problem once out of almost 100 uses, and the python was still at 80% hull, just a 20k cred fix, I don't know why it does that for you

DC's are totally useless unless you are blind ( no offence to those poeple). I can dock a conda manually and have no time in between to light up some haze or open a beer...

I've tried the docking computer yesterday on my Clipper. I like to do the landings myself but I thought I would try it to see if it's faster than me. Of course, it is, when it's not dumb enough to smash my Clipper in the station!

Is there a specific way to position your ship to avoid this? I usually try to approach the station while in SC to have the opening right in front of me when I drop from SC. But that seems to confuse the docking computer. I think out of maybe 20 landing attempts, it did crash the Clipper 4 or 5 times. At the end of the evening, I was not trying to position the Clipper the best way possible, was just flying directly to the station then drop. Seems the docking computer was better in that situation.

Anyone has any tip? I just use it because it's faster and my play time is a bit limited these days...

Docking computer can get confused, seem to ignore advert drones and push past them.

Suggest just dropping you ship ruffly in front of station and letting docking computer do the work from there.

Personally I dock within 60s of requesting docking, but nice after a long run trade run to have computer do it.

From The Dark Wheel:
'Oh for a docking computer . . .' Alex murmured as he began to match rotation and slowly approached.
'Waste of money . . .' Elyssia chided. 'If you can't dock without losing your paintwork, you shouldn't be in space.'

Seems fine to me with my clipper. Just boost towards the station with contacts open as soon as it hits 7.5km throttle to zero then go get a beer by the time you've drunk the beer it should of landed :p

Hmm, I flew the clipper for 2 weeks (might go back to it), and I used a docking computer since the day I bought it. Not once it crashed into something.
I don't do anything special in my landing: If I'm lazy, I activate it as soon as I'm in range (7,5km) and alt+tab into my browser while it docks or go get a beer or something^^ it's longer than docking manually, but I find it more relaxing.
But most of the time I fly manually through the gate and then activate it, but you have to be carefull that your ship is fully inside, or the dc will want to go to the queue position (that means flying back out...not really pretty with a big ship like that^^)
That way it's faster because the computer is really good at landing this beast onto the pad whereas I had some "problems" usind the vertical thrusters (they are soo weak...)

I've not had any problems with the DC since I've started using it in a T9 and an anaconda. The clipper might have special issues as has been pointed out. Lately I've been manually entering the letter box and only throttle down to engage the DC once I'm in the station. This combination has made for some very quick docking. Maybe this technique would help with the clipper until it's fixed. ( ^ someone beat me to it :) )

The docking computer works 100%of the time on all ships except the clipper. For some reason it wrecks clippers about 25% of the time and only at certain stations like porta(39 tauri) and Hart station (bast) if you avoid stations or dock your self at stations like these you should be fine.

Docking computer is awesome

Logged in again after a hiatus, and I have to say the single best thing is the Docking Computer.

Boosting for max speed, reliable. After landing manually a few thousand times, having a machine take over the drudge work and di it so well is a real pleasure to see.

Thanks Sarah Jane, you did good.
