I've never once used a docking computer. Even in my Imperial Clipper or Anaconda. And... An Asp?! You need a docking compy in an Asp?!

Look, you, uh, really need to work on your flying skills...

I autodock my sidewinder

You can even AutoSmuggle, Just turn your shields off then engage silent running before you slow to allow your DC to take over. I dare say there is nothing finer than a good auto smuggler
Just be a little careful as if you get stuck in "waiting in Que" it can get a little toasty in the cockpit. On the bright side if the station starts shooting at you the docking computer automatically disengages for a quick get away ( go ahead ask me how I know )

The one time I mentioned I was nose to nose with the type9 in the window the computer did say under attack and I heard it in the next room. I ran so fast and apparently I was a bit loud because I woke up the wife, I think that is going to cost me a Coach purse rebuy which is even worse than a ship rebuy.

No, no I don't. I choose to use the docking computer, not need to.

What I need is for the docking computer to not suddenly have a death wish or take up it's new hobby of ramming other ships to see if it is tougher!

I really think it works well, maybe there was internet packet loss or something that made it not see the other ship, I think that is what happened when it smashed me into the dock.

Iv used a DC on every ship iv owned since i could afford to buy one (which was on day 2 after general release in Dec).

I have used it every time since i purchased it. Do i trust it 100%? No chance!!

Never ever turn away when using a DC, if you do then its your own fault if you lose your ship.

I can only recall 3 or 4 times in 8 months of use that iv had to regain control & land myself, after it decided to malfunction. That's not bad considering iv done thousands of DC landings.

To me it adds more realism into the game.....it's a program & programs sometimes do stupid things.

Don't blame the DC....blame yourself for leaving the screen while using it!

You must not live in the U.S. Here if I spill hot coffee on myself it is someone else's fault and I can sue so clearly it would be somebody else's fault. Even the little old lady down the street before I had to accept any sort of blame for it!

Personally I think Bajab is just the smartest guy in the room and he is setting himself up so he can say no Mobius I didn't ram the new player in the sidewinder into oblivion, I swear it was the docking computer :p

Did you slow down to allow the DC to take charge? I imagine you could easily ram someone before the DC even ectivates.

And by the way, you can always turn the DC off from the "Modules" tab without revoking the docking permission.

Nice one!

No, i live in the UK, 'The land of the....err....rain!'

+ Rep for the chuckle

The second time I ever used one it flew my viper into the station then turned around and boosted right out of the mail slot right into another ship. Luckily I've only ever gotten minor dings after that. Mostly dings in my trading conda because it goes to slowly through the mail slot some times.

I use my DC all the time with an A rated 'conda and never have a problem so it seems the OP should put in a ticket. Unless he bought one of the Chinglish versions of course as the guarantee runs out two days before it leaves the factory.

I remember somone saying that the docking computer can't get you fined.
I would report it just incase.

It was a frequent suggestion at the time fines for speeding were introduced. I do recall that MB or another senior dev said they'd do this. I guess it didn't happen then.

I clearly remember SJA writing that you can't get fined while under control of DC. Which again leads to possible situation where OP didn't slow down for DC to take controll.

Well, there isn't any and there never will be one either. Computers have - like humans - quirks, the docking computer has also quirks. Learn to live with it, or learn how to dock :)

I use to use the docking computer, but found that learning to dock is quite challenging and therefore - fun. I make it a game, how fast can I come in before lowering my gear, coming in upside down and then flipping it over just in time to dock, making a perfect landing without hovering first, etc.... A game within a game! LOL
---Cheers Commanders!

I had a docking computer-sometime during the 1980's but docking was much harder then.
These days I wouldn't dream of it.
I prefer manually boosting into the side of the station then I can only blame myself.

Perhaps the OP does know how to dock but chooses to use the DC for other reasons.

Indeed that is the case, namely after a few hundred times it got boring enough to allow myself to be distracted by other things. I still occasionally manually dock, but use the DC most of the time.

Really, my post was more about the fact it seems to have suddenly changed. From the occasional bump into a wall, to crashing into other ships three times in one night (hard enough to kill them). Some people seem to have missed that point.
It appears my thread has been moved to the end of another thread so some of these replies do not make sense.

Well after 1000's of manual dockings in smaller smuggling ships where space was golden I finally decided to treat myself to a larger ship (Python) and exploit a legal trading run. Since the Python has lots of extra room I splurged and bought my first DC. So far I like it and it hasn't crashed me yet but then again it IS still new and doesn't even have a speck of dust on it. I'm sure once the wiring starts to fray and the chips get hot/cold/hot/cold it will begin to go Hal on me but so far so good.

My Docking computer malfunctioned..

Today happened incredible to me.
I was landing, as usual, as i done thousands of times. Yet, when i approached the landing platform, i was "told" i am approaching the opposite way!
Even so, i tried convice docking bay, i am in right position. Then i just gave up and turned around and landed. Funnily in opposite way than is usual.
Well.. you can see that in video below:
