I only bought mine to see if the Blue Danube DID play... It did... I learnt that... I've not used it since! :D

Same. Switched power off after the first time. It's still attached to the ship though. Maybe it'll absorb some module damage. The sound system on my Cobra sounds like a old time mono radio.

Can't buy a docking computer? Lucky you. I bought one, used it once, sold it immediately. Rubbish. Maybe handy for the big ships that are harder to get through the slot, but for anything small you can dock much faster and more effectively on manual control.

Ummm no :D

Grabbed one to reminisce the good old days of the C-64 docking at Lave. Ahhh good times.

I bought one about an hour ago at Eranin, tried docking twice... both times my beloved Ana had to go the the smash repairs for a spray job.

In my opinion, learn to dock on the small ships... once you've nailed that, the large ones are a piece of Lave Lava Cake :p

I've never owned anything bigger than a Cobra but I can attest to getting the hang of docking - just keep practicing with a sidey with no cargo in it till you can nail it

I mapped the lateral thrusters to I,J,K & L keys as well as the top switch of my joystick and speed up and slow down to page up/page down which gives me precise control of speed and movement as I pull into land. If that helps

Yep Blue Danube the first time was rather sublime on the approach ;-) Once we got to the slot & inside the docking bay was a bit too 'hairy' for my liking (flipping upside down, stalling in the middle of oncoming traffic, etc), so I got rid of it.

Funny thing was, when I first started online, I really thought I'd struggle with docking & couldn't wait until I had the funds to get the docking computer. As it turned out, I was well & truly proficient at it by the time I bought one & didn't need it :)

All makes sense when you go into a dock with all the AI craft banging into walls and other ships. Obviously all loaded with the latest in docking refinery too :p

.... probably quite similar to the EULA for "driverless" cars will be - be ready to take control of the vehicle at a moments notice.

Doubtless the original programmer of the current docking computer will eventually be caught and slow-roasted infront of a quaser, but until then commanders use the *cough* docking computer at their peril.

I'm sure it's a stunt to make us all better pilots in the long run... :D

My DC took more than 10 min to dock me.
Got shot by the station :D
After the "slow down" message, i put my speed to approx zero and the computer only made small thrusts.

Yeah Auto Dock does suck on Lakon Type 9, couple of times i would go grab a beer, and come back to find its scrapping across the station with shields down.

Tried to sell mine, they wouldnt take it back lol...

Funny.

I bought one because I had a spare slot on my Hauler and wanted to test it out.

I've found that if you cut throttle outside the entrance, just beyond the entry billboards, it's a perfect run every time.

Plus... the Music, oh wow :D

So happy...

Docking computer = bad + No Pilot in cockpit

Hey enjoying the game so far wanted to report 2 bugs I couldn't find in the sticky.

First the docking computer: I attached it to my Lakon 6 and the first go around worked but was pretty shakes looking. Second time it made it all the way to the pad before it tried to land and missed the target and just started grinding into the ground sliding towards the left. Managed to get back to manual before it did any hull damage. I'd like to see a docking computer with just more UI guides to help me manually dock rather than a full auto one but at least the auto one should cheat the game if it misses the landing zone maybe?

Second there is no pilot in the cockpit in the sidewinder (though I suspect all ships) the first thing me and my buddy did when we logged in together was invert and fly till our cockpits almost touched (add wave command ? :D) any way its a ghost ship. I don't expect a full poly pilot but if you are going to have clear glass I'd like at least a low poly frozen model when I get really close.

Like others I bought one just to see what it was like. I flew out of the station just to come right back in using the DC. Maybe it was just bad luck that a large(ish) ship was coming out at the same time, but as soon as it had landed my ship I sold it. Nuff said. :D

Today I had need to "emergency log out" of ED as the docking computer managed to hang up my Lakon 9 in the rails at the side of the docking pad after landing sideways at some crazy speed when I was distracted by the tv.... The ship wasn't taking much damage persay but after I sent Chewwy to put a couple of blasts into the docking computer I couldn't un-hook myself from the rails... bit of an strange design "feature" that... Glad to see emergeny log out still works in station - although had to re-enter the station on log-in.... sigh
