mmmm well i just about lost the farm tonight
had 3m in combat bounties in my vulture

approached an outpost and though i'll let the DC take it in

It turned and flew straight down at the pad (like it was a letterbox)
I pulled away at the last second at 90 m/s
let it do it a second and third time

yup ... thats bugged its a platform not a letterbox to fly through

I was at Timberalis at one of the outposts

I agree the letterbox docking is much better but the smaller stations turn it off

Good save, thanks for the info I will try to take more care in the future.
I like the idea of an upgraded D/C that will take off for you that could be really useful.

It's supposed to fly straight down to the pad, then at 400m it decelerates and levels off before landing. It's the fastest way down. :)

I absolutely love the new docking computer.

Sadly it has turned me into a life of crime and villainy.

Those poor security ships have no chance to scan me as I nose dive down towards the pad, before leveling out at the last moment.

Just came into my power headquarter for Lavigny-Duval, the Queen of law and order with a hull full of smuggled narcotics, weapons and other goodies.

Silent running, drop a couple of heatsinks as I raced through the slot. Pull back my throttle, and the DC just seamlessly takes over, makes a beautiful pirouette before settling down on pad 30. Like a boss. I even raised my arms it happened. lol.

Good work :D

Since 1.3 you don't have to be in a good position for docking computer to take over. Just get nearer than 7.5 km's to the station, throttle down to zero (mine is set to key X) and let the ride begins. :) (just be sure you actually have a docking computer and it's enabled). You may be a little uncomfortable the first time :) (especially if you are docking to an outpost).

docking computer now flies drunk

Ever since the latest version, the docking computer flies like a drunken monkey. It used to be that I would line it up nicely with the portal, switch over to computer and it would fly straight in with just a few tweaks to the course. Now it flies a very circuitous route, going way wide before swinging back to the portal, very close to the toast rack. It seems weird that this would be by design.
Sorry if this is a repeat. I searched but didn't find any previous mention of the issue.

At least it's drunk... Last time I used one it forgot what it was doing and stopped me in the mailslot.

I would guess it is to avoid getting in the way of incoming and outcoming commanders boosting through the slot :)

No, they improved it and it was very good but then they changed it and now it does this weird maneuver which really stinks because it can leave you floating for a few minutes while it waits, tries, they circles back again if something flies by.

It is now totally rubbish if you use it with a clipper, about 1 in 5 docks it boosts to the station, then rotates 180 degrees and the back of the ship hits the station, lose 1 ring of shield, then it docks.

I have taken to just engaging it once inside the mail shot, it generally works ok then.

I suppose at home you wash your clothes by hand? Washing machine LOL...

Look if there is something which can take the chore out of something, why not use it?

Because it's made by the same goddess who brings us enemies that hit steadily harder with each update. Because the docking computer thus pursues to kill you and make it look like an accident.

Had the same problem last night. First time since the rework of the docking computer that it failed. Flew me nose first right into the outpost landing platform. I had docked at outposts before and since with no problems. Which I can remember where and which outpost it was; but I think the problem might be just specific to certain outposts.

Docking computer making me lazy :p

Since i heard the docking computer was supposed to have its process sped up after the last major update to AI, i decided to give it a go on my imperial clipper. Anyone who has flown such a beast with lower than average thrusters knows that it drifts in the stations really badly. After a few runs of the docking computer, i found it was much better than i at docking such a ship! and i have trusted my life with it on many occasions, even once walking away from the computer! It has only once ran straight into the cow-catcher / cheese grater thing in front of the letter slot, but that didn't even dent the shields and it was still capable of fixing its mistake and docking safely. So, 10/10 i trust the SDC with my clipper's life ;)

Good to hear! SJA has apparently really done a great job improving the docking computer. I have never used it so far, but reading the positive comments and since I am flying a clipper, too, I think I will give it a try. I have a completely A-rated clipper, including thrusters, and can dock rather swiftly, and I enjoy docking, too. But it somehow fits my image of such a luxury yacht to come with all conceivable extras, including a DC. So, if anything, I will fit one into my ship solely for that reason - and to witness the DC roller coaster so many commanders have spoken about :D

I tried smuggling with mine and realised it was easier without.
It does work well on the occasions I used it when not smuggling.
However I got rid of it, I didn't like that it took away my flying.
Silly thing really but that was the case. I doubt I'll touch one again for a little while.

You wont even get a speeding ticket while the docking computer is in control! saves a lot of the hassle of worrying about colliding with some anxious commander trying to haul in a cargo full of questionable goods :p
