Yeah, thats a very old and pretty uncommon bug. I only had it ones in lets say 6 months (in the early days it happend much more often). It happens when the pad has just been used by an NPC, and you get it assigned for landing, or somewhere along those lines.

The docking computer can't handle this bug, and keeps trying to land the ship in the right direction, which is wrong direction in this case. I would file a ticket, just to be sure.

Docking computer no longer available?

Hello

I keep HR 1064 as my home base. I have a Type 6 and Viper. I bought the Viper here, stocked it out with a docking computer because I *loathe* the process of docking and it means I can go aft and do something else. Came back today, pulled the Type 6 out of storage - and no docking computers available. This is a Very high population Hi Tech Industrial with everything else I could want.

I know I bought the docking computer for the Viper here.

Am I doing something *really* stupid? (apart from selling stuff when I put something in storage, to free up some cash - which I won't be doing again... sigh)

Just want to check you are looking at the internal compartments NOT the Utility mount slots?

If I may ask, what is it you loathe about docking?

Fly safe

Perfectly viable. And yes, it does happen with outfitting that the same station will not always have the same components. MOST of times they do. But unlike commodities, modules availability can vary within the same station with no notice.

Time to go shopping!

Safe travels CMDR.

yep - I flew to another terminal and found them... weird.

If I may ask, what is it you loathe about docking?

It's a tedious waste of time... But thank you for taking the time to answer... found what I needed.

Very strange, but if it says you are coming in the wrong way, it won't let you dock in that direction. I recommend against trying cause it will be a waste of time. Just get your ship pointed in the direction that is says you are supposed to be facing, land and then raise a ticket.

I had to get one to test it out and of course hear the Blue Danube. Well it does play it, but there is an annoying ticking or maybe suppose to be static like effect while playing. It just isn't needed if it is deliberate to make you think the music is interference from electrical devices on the ship. I get no ticking for other music or effects just on the one song I would like to hear in full fidelity while docking.

The docking computer you need to be almost stopped for it to activate and you need to be facing the entrance or at least have it in sight. It works well enough, in fact I thought I was about to hit a ship in the slot but it took me over the top of it. It isn't fast and it is auto, so unless you take it offline in control panel it activated on landing request accepted. I would like to make it a hot key want it on, hit the key, disengage press it again. Like in the original Elite. A nice novelty and cheap enough that people having docking issues can get one easy enough. I am much faster without it, but will use it for the music. Now make the music an option to play or not when requesting landing permission with a docking computer even if you put it offline would be a nice option as well for us old timers.

I am thinking it plays it as if coming over a subspace comm channel, works fine for me now. I don't engage it until I am in the station and if you come under attack while you are outside of the station it will go offline. And always make sure you do not leave the computer while docking is in progress

I have never used one and I must say I really enjoy docking manually, even in the python. Once you get used to it, it's second nature (an Anaconda may be a different story).
I cringe at the thought of using up a compartment that might be better served with an Advanced Discovery Scanner, or Shield Cell Bank, Cargo Hold...etc.
Something that can make me money or save my skin.

Just a thought,
If your current ship has a DC, and you want to change ships, sell your DC before changing ships, change ships then use outfitting & buy bqck the DC.

I do that with the advanced scanner, simply to avoid havin 1.5 million credits' worth of module in storage.
Just don't leave the station or save before rebuying.

Does anyone else ...

....Use a docking computer even though they are completely able to dock perfectly ?

I use my Docking computer not to get through the letter box but activate it once I am over/near the pad .. just to be lazy ... I find this method very handy if the pad is right next to the entrance (especially if I have had to enter the station in a hurry) but I use it every time regardless of where the pad is.

Anyone else do this or other odditys ?

I use mine because I am basically lazy. Never had a problem with manual docking, just can't be bothered with all the messing around.

Also, letting the DC do the works leaves me free to chat with people in-game, catch up on the forum, check GalNet for new news, plan my next jump, and so on. But that's all justification after the fact. :)

Nope. I manually dock and I take a pride in getting it done smoothly and with precision. However I have no beef about anyone else using one. I particularly enjoy swooping my T9 into the ones nr the entrance.

To those of us that choose to manually doc, (for emersion reasons??) did you realize there are alignment markings at the far end of the stations that once aligned with, when you descend to the pad it leaves you darn near on 0-0 point.

I actually enjoy docking. Even more since I'm flying an Anaconda.
I always try to do it as fast and perfect as possible.

I use it for the following reasons;

Get a beer
Take a leak
Browse the forums - on another PC
Skype on another PC
etc.

Sometimes I take over if it's faffing around - I can dock much faster without it but it's convenient at times for the above reasons.

Sometimes I've had the odd comment like "Hurrrr, docking computer" as if having one somehow means you can't dock...

:D

Say WHAT???
Where, when, what, why and oh yes, how??

I'm pretty damn slick at the ol' swoop and splat style of landing, don't often take a hit to the shields, NEVER damage my ship (an ASP no less!), but this is news to me. Be specific, talk me through this: enjoy my eternal thanks :)
