One thing I noticed is when dc kicks in you cannot enter silent running or deploy heat sink, no goo if being scanned is an issue

One thing I've noticed is you can still access these features from the right panel. I haven't tried it with Silent Running, but I'll turn on the lights and play with some of the other functions while DC is running its procedure.

I agree, it makes no sense at all to be a physical module. It's an extra bit of software in the flight computer. There is no logical reason for it to be a physical thing taking space.

I suspect this is done for gameplay balance. Just as your thrusters will slow you down after boost even with flight assist off.

I don't get it though... I mean on todays aircraft it's a 450lines of code... and balance losing a rather large bit of gear just to be difficult? I mean *me* personally sees it as a poke in the eye for my disability that pretty much needs it, and *I* am penalized because I'm paralyzed (I know it isn't, but it feels like it). The scanners make sense takes a module, they have a extra part in them.

I really don't know why. I just said what I suspected. But there's another possibility. It could be that you need an extra computer storage unit to hold the extra information required for the auto docking programming routines (because the HD of the ship computer is near maximum capacity). Now, I don't know for sure (I'm not one of the Devs), but this is the only reason I can think of within lore.

It was also a deliberate choice to make the players sacrifice something important for that capability. In reality, the computer could handle all aspects of flight. You could buy varying grades of AI for whatever task you wanted. Only in this way could they make players with too much cash make a physical sacrifice in overall ship capability.

The LC is SLOW and SLOW and SLOW and the Music is far too quiet. even farts of flies are louder. Also i missed the waltz when he rotates the ship to the Docking bay to get in correct Position. with other words. the landing Computer is one big disappointment and the LC of the classic Elite is FAR better.

That would seem like a feeble excuse really, who would design a computer to be running at near full capacity all the time? I'd actually like to see the computer as an additional option in outfitting, and allow us to have an option to install software 'modules'. You could then install bigger/better computer units, and things like the docking computer, a trade computer, mapping system, notes, and a whole host of other things inside the computer.

As awesome as that would be, I suspect this will never happen. :( But I really like this idea! :)

That would be a good one for the suggestions page for one of the big updates.

I hope that they get rid of the extra slot usage in the future. When there is more content, the DC is more of a comfort feature. At the beginning, docking was a major gameplay element, but when we have more things to do, docking may not longer be one of the core achievements of the game. :)

I suspect becoming comfortable with Hub Station docking will always be one of the core achievements. When you have a slot that is wide and narrow that you have to pilot a ship through, botching said docking attempt can be a fatal error. You botch a docking attempt with a Clipper, Python, or even worse Anaconda and your bank account is going to have one very bad day. Thinking on it, I think the idea of having a docking computer occupying an internal, or utility slot, whichever, is a good thing. You have to pay for convenience. If you're in a sidewinder, hauler, adder, even a viper, it's really not needed. I've taken all of those ships in without even matching rotation. You get most of the bigger ships and if you don't know how to dock, you are going to pay, one way or the other.

I am very comfortable throwing my Python through the slot at all speeds. I just use the DC for the last few meters near the pad. At outposts too... So i let it turned while smuggling. In stations its an advantage if you flew past your pad because of the smuggler speed while entering the the station and you have to track back. Thats the job for the DC. But its a shame it uses a slot of my Python where a wohle vehicle hangar could take place instead.

Well, Pythons aren't that bad. But you get an Anaconda, that thing barely fits through the slot.

we've all seen what happens when you are flying around on Plutonium Nyborg...
the landing was atrocious.

once you get a big ship, or are in a weird position, too close, or just feel like being lazy ...

sometimes it is just a nice way to easily park your ship, after you've been out and about for a few hours. or for some days, weeks or MONTHS.. some folks might have a whoopsie and loose millions in data.

you just have to be smart about it, keep an eye on it that it ISNT going to wreck you. (hit Throttle to break the Docking Computer's Hold on you ).
I like to line myself up.. get inside the slot, then trigger it and let it handle the finer details.. less chance of hitting the station and going boom

I just got this for my sidewinder. Makes the game much more fun for me. The first time after I got it I was looking for a landing pad till I realised I have the docking computer haha. It docks very fast and the music is great too.

One docking was funny. The front of the sidewinder swayed left and right with the music. I laughed and started to sway my hands and body too.
