hmmm, manual docking takes very short time, docking computer has to have at least disadvantage, so if you want to dock fast do that manually ;)

and lining up with docking entrance is no problem at all as it's really HUGE, i usually FA off near station and just turn it one when i am more less at the entrance and then usually point my noise perpendicular to station and go with vertical thrust down. even with lakon type 9 it takes no time at all ;)

I don't have a problem docking manually, but the computer needs testing for sure. I mean fastER - I can have a nap in the time it takes to get to the pad! Needs refining to be smoother too.

The docking computer is crap, and may even be a liability in some circumstances (like when you want to get a big ship docked). I can dock manually quicker and with less chance of damage every single time. Even if I manually line up on the entrance it still arses around. The fact it pretty much has complete control of your ship just makes matters worse.

I totally agree, at the moment anyway. With smaller ships it was a good opportunity to make a coffee and make some room for the coffee, but with the type 9 / anaconda its more like an additional self destruct option.

Yes - and for all everyone's adherence to the green/red light rules, the DC spins around and picks the middle of the huge docking bay. Should be on the correct side at least!

Docking Computer bug?

I just wanted to check here before ticketing it..

I was playing the game in windowed mode and I noticed that the docking computer was unable to land the ship. I suspect the resolution of the screen has something to do with it.

Has anyone else noticed this?

nah the docking system is a little bit bugged sometimes it works, sometimes not and sometimes kills you for no reason.

I've lost 4 ships to this bug and have posted about it all ready in the forums and a few others have as well

I tried it once, I slid into the station okay, and then my ship took minutes to traverse the full length of the station to the pad at this odd angle as if it was drunk and then sat above the pad for several minutes not doing anything. When I heard a deep rumble that meant a Lakon T9 or similar was approaching I took control and landed manually....and then sold the docking computer! :)

For a second it did look like it was going to make its final approach but then got drunk again.

I've never had probs with the docking computer until I played in windowed mode. It never docked the ship on a res of 800x600.. It worked a few times when it was in a wide screen resolution (forget which) but even then it failed to dock eventually.

It seems to get the co-ords wrong for hovering over the pad and with no pad below it, it won't descend the ship - which is better than crashing :)

I wonder how they've done the docking computer. Do they have magic/hidden markers in the station or are they using the 3D output as reference?

Docking Computers......

Are they modelled on female AI ??

Gleaned from hours of viewing major supermarket carpark cctv footage ?

Just askin.......

Coz had to buy one last night........

Had an unfortunate experience with "Stella"

:D

Still....Got a Cobra......(Just)

It's not an instant dock.
You're better off practicing as it is much much quicker to just fly in the letterbox manually once you get the hang of it. I get alarms going off left, right and center but not died docking yet( gulp crosses fingers! ).

I sold my docking computer within a few minutes.

Yea I know.....I have docked manually since I have been playing.....

Never crashed......Million times easier than the original......

Just got a bit wrecked last night.......Like seeing double...So purchased one....

Looking at the antics inside the station with head tracking I nearly chucked...

:D

I'm guessing they're really for the big ships. Lakon 6 or smaller will get through the port fairly easily but I really wouldn't want to try that with a 9 or the yet to be seen but widely anticipated panther.(My favourite Fe2 ship. I didn't bother with guns. 300 shields and AI were just flies on the windscreen)

The docking computer installed in a Lakon 9 does feel really quite dodgy, feels like its being parked by a overwrought toddler the way they slam down on to the pad.

tis funny though.

I had guns in my Panther turrets for Pirates who were stupid enough to get into turret range. The Space Cow doesn't need a docking computer, just pile in at full speed making train noises. I'm sure the next iteration of docking computers will be better.

Sorry What....

You do realise that obese toddlers are in fact undermining the basics and care of the NHS......

Oh sorry..........

Overwrought.......
