The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

Greetings!

Since the 2 year mark for DSSA Destiny Ascension is about to be reached on 3rd of October, the system it is in would be registered as a Historical POI on EDSM. There are no intentions to remove DSSA Destiny Ascension from the DSSA Initiative. However, there is something I wanted to ask.

I've dedicated some time to visiting non-visited systems (by me) in 50LYs radius, searching for something where I could relocate DSSA Destiny Ascension.

The current designated system for DSSA Destiny Ascension is https://www.edsm.net/en/system/id/30804700/name/Scheau+Blao+TB-A+c28-274

I really want to move to a different location. The system I want to move to is https://www.edsm.net/en/system/id/38775612/name/Scheau+Blao+TB-A+c28-271 - 9.47LYs away from my current designated system.

The main reasons why I want to move to this system is because:
1st - I have discovered it is a GREEN system - all the material for FSD Injections can be found there.

2nd - When you enter the C28-274 and start moving towards Destiny Ascension, the ringed icy planet it is orbiting is placed in such a position, you always collide either with the planet or the rings, due to how close the FC is to the planet, which makes it a problem for the general approach (especially if you're using SC assist). With the new location C28-271, such problems would not exist. There's also the 3.5kLS travel time which I want to cut down to 2.5kLS with the C28-271. There's also the bonus of the beauty which surrounds you which is looking much better than what my current designated system has. I would be orbiting a moon of a ringed Jovian gas giant with a lot of other planets visible from the FC deck. (check screenshots under this message)

The question is, would it be possible to relocate to this new system and then marking it as an EDSM Historic POI? There is really no other reason for me to move there other than what is already stated above.

Greetings Cmdr -

Erimus popped into the DSSA Council channel on Discord and said that the GMP will be glad to change the location…Just be sure to also update your Cmdr Form that feeds the DSSA Tracker - and then everyone will see the new location “live” in the feed from EDAstro as well..

(FYI - all Relief / Reserve DSSA Cmdrs are encouraged to find new systems in the general area of the DSSA they are replacing…In the first post of this thread - the DSSA were being deployed with their SERVICES in mind - not simply being anchored at famous POIs [although many are in fact in spectacular systems])

Tariff:0%
Commodities Bought/Sold on Carrier:Tritium (STAR Depot), Coffee, Tea, Wine, Beer
Nearest Tritium Hotspot:Scheau Blao TB-A c28-274 // ABC 6 (Overlapping hotspots)
Carrier Information:DSSA Destiny Ascension is one of three Deep Space Support Array outposts located in the region of Ryker's Hope. Its purpose is to provide necessary services to all ships passing through the Scheau Blao and neighbouring sectors of the region. The current system is marked GREEN for all materials needed for FSD Injections. The systems with Neutron Stars are just arround the coner, connecting you back to the Neutron Highway very easily and almost immediately. DSSA Destiny Ascension has its own website for more information.

DSSA Destiny Ascension is positioned at one of many moons orbiting a ringed Jovian (Class I) Gas Giant. The closest moon is just a couple hundred kilometers away from reaching the ring. It is a perfect place for such an outpost to exist and admire the beauty it surrounds it. The rings within and around the system contain a lot of hotspots for mining opportunities if one wishes to engage in such activities.

This outpost also serves as a Deep Space STAR Depot, providing a very large amount of Tritium for passing Fleet Carriers.

(The Historical Note should remain as it was)

Here's an update to the Thracian nebula, where the DSSA Inverness was anchored for two years. More information on the planetary nebula, more screenshots, and this takes care of letting people know that it's a historical DSSA POI and the carrier is no longer there.

Name: Thracian Nebula (formerly DSSA Inverness)
Game map search ref: Thraikoo PS-U e2-4
Screenshot reference: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/971090231518429224/971108821680390164/unknown.png
Description: The Thracian Nebula is situated on the Perseus galactic arm, in the Vulcan Gate region. The nebula itself is a remnant from a supernova, and although the central star had collapsed into a black hole, the light comes from two other stars in the system.
The nebula viewed from a nearby system

The central black hole

A varied host of planets orbit these in various configurations, the most notable of which is a water world (named Skudra) that's almost Earth-like: the temperature is just two Kelvins below the minimum required boundary for Universal Cartographics to classify it as such... if the planet had any landmasses, besides the polar ice caps.
Skudra

A host of small landable worlds also orbit both stars.

Explorers who have reached this nebula from the bubble can travel farther West to the noted Ovomly sector, which houses the only form of spaceborne life known to thrive around white dwarf stars: Torus Molluscs. Aside from a few points of interest farther in the region, Vulcan Gate is relatively lightly explored (at the time of writing) compared to many other galactic regions, so there are plenty of opportunities for Commanders who wish to make their mark on the galaxy.

From 3306 August 29 to 3308 September 10, the nebula was home to the DSSA Inverness carrier:

XFITX87.png

  • Carrier Name: DSSA Inverness
  • Registration: X8Y-34X
  • Carrier Class: Nautilus Class
  • Commission Date (date signed up to the DSSA): July 25th 3306
  • Carrier Construction Date: June 9th 3306
  • Construction Location: Jackson Ring, CD-47 990
  • Maiden Jump(s): 101 Tauri for fueling (June 9th 3306), IGAU Inverness Nebula Survey Expedition (June 15 3306 to August 27 3306)
  • In-service Date (date the vessel began its DSSA service): August 29th 3306
  • Services Available: Refuel, Repair, Armoury, Redemption Office, Shipyard, Universal Cartographics, Concourse Bar, Vista Genomics
  • Tariff Percentage Set: 0%
  • Commodities Bought/Sold on Carrier: Tritium (as part of the STAR Network)
  • Nearest Tritium Hotspot: Unknown at this time

This carrier was originally commissioned as the IGAU Inverness, as a mobile research carrier that led an expedition spanning 50,000 ly, surveying nebulae and gathering biological samples from spaceborne aliens. Once the expedition was finished with the Inverness having delivered the samples to the Holloway Biology Centre at Colonia, the carrier was assigned to the DSSA, and was later renamed to DSSA Inverness. After a short refueling campaign that was helped by independent Commanders and the IGAU squadron, the carrier reached its deployment location in the Thracian Nebula on August 29th, 3306.

After the famous lost green gas giant was found, once At The Eldritch Gate expedition was complete, the carrier retired from the DSSA and STAR networks and left this system.

I noticed someone on the main forum has discovered a permit locked system on the far side of the galaxy. I'm wondering if its the Praei sector, or if there could be more unknown ones out there?

Those sectors should have been opened years ago as its clear frontier have no plans for them now. 🤷‍♂️

From the description it's the Praei sector but that hasn't been confirmed by the poster.

Yep its sounds like it. For a moment there I hoped someone had discovered something new in the galaxy for the first time in years. Still waiting for confirmation, but by the sounds of it its Praei.

Further info from the OP indicate it's in Rykers Hope, so it must be the Bleia permit locked region, still nothing new as far as I am aware.

@Orvidius

Myself and a couple of others have been visiting some of the HIP systems that are listed in the "systems without main stars" csv. I have double checked that the scans I have made are being listed on EDSM as scanned, I am playing in ED Odyssey but the csv even after several weeks is still listing these as being without main stars.

Do you have an example of one specifically? Maybe there's a flaw in the detection logic that I can look for.

EDIT: I just found a pattern matcher that was excluding catalog systems. I'm running a new update.

EDIT 2: Updated spreadsheet posted.

Just had a quick look and that seems to have found the problem.

Thank you.

EDSM map updated until this post.

Updated:
  • NGC 3293 - added image and updated text
  • Orion Molecular Cloud Complex - added link to Orion Shortcut route.
  • GU Muscae - updated text.
  • Nstor Forrest - added image.
  • Red Coral - added image and updated text

Contributors: Ibanix, Nstor, Neil Trayce

Cartographers note:

These updates to existing POIs that Ibanix has been providing is very helpful for fleshing out the mapping project. Should you encounter any existing POI that lacks image or detailed description, we encourage you to visit the place and provide us with updated images and text. The end goal here would be to have images added to all POI entries on the map. If you can provide the image in 640x320 size and post it directly into this thread, it saves us a lot of trouble when updating the map.

Requesting typo fixes for Lewis' Loss:

Greetings
- it appears to me as if the text in the entry is written just as you are suggesting,
- either the typo has allready been fixed or perhabs Im not getting your point about what is wrong with the text (English is not my first language...)?

I'm missing the POI in this system: https://www.edsm.net/en_GB/system/id/51403830/name/Dryau+Aec+JF-A+d11
It was part of the DSSA-initiative (#30) and we did our stipulated 2 year of service. The POI was there until this February sometime and then someone seems to have deleted it. Is it possible to get back or was there a change of rules? Not terribly important, but it was nice to occasionally view the visitor list.

I cannot find any entry for this in the POI database - perhabs it was deleted by mistake? Can you provide a link to the original forum post with the entry to help me investigate?
