In going from Jaques to the Formidine Rift, I decided to explore the Scutum-Sagittarius Conflux. This was motivated by a combination of factors: Salome's reference to the Conflux as harbouring a connection to the Rift; David Braben's mention of the possibility for archaeology and the Neutron Highway project. As such, my primary objective was to find sites with the potential for future archaeological investigations in the Conflux. I noticed a region on the edge of the Conflux on EDSM that seems devoid of POIs, even though there are a few nebulae present, so I decided to focus my search in that area and these POIs are the result:

'The Corpselight Cluster'
Game map search ref. : GREAE HYPA AA-A H23 / BLAA HYPA AA-A H59 / BLAA HYPA AA-A H36 / BLAA HYPA AA-A H53
POI Type: Visual
Near the border of the Scutum-Sagittarius Conflux, well below the Galactic Plane, is a tight group of four nebulae. All of these nebulae contain stellar remnants, especially neutron stars, hence the name for the cluster. Three of these nebulae are in BLAA HYPA sector but the largest is GREAE HYPA AA-A H23 (170*140*155LY), which is also the farthest below the Galactic Plane (1230LY) and contains large numbers of neutron stars and white dwarfs. The most distant of the nebulae from this is BLAA HYPA AA-A H59, ~1300LY away, which is also the smallest and closest to the Galactic Plane (45*45*40LY, 355LY below the Galactic Plane). The other two nebulae are less than 700LY away from each other (BLAA HYPA AA-A H36 is 90*90*75LY, 1165LY below; BLAA HYPA AA-A H53 is 120*110*125LY, 740LY below). Visually, several of these nebulae share similar colours based on deep orange and red colours, but one (BLAA HYPA AA-A H36) has strong shades of purple.
'House of Hades'
Game map search ref: GREAE HYPA AA-A H23
POI Type: Visual
This vast nebula (170*140*155LY) lies 1230LY below the Galactic Plane and is home to many neutron stars and white dwarfs. Its flaming orange colours and the remains of many once-great stars that inspire its name nevertheless provide stunning scenery; sometimes eerie and dark and sometimes bright and blazing.

'Siegfried's Pyre'
Game map search ref: BLAA HYPA AA-A H59
POI Type: Visual
This nebula is home to only two neutron stars, once massive bright stars that went supernova, and shares the fiery colours of most of the cluster, inspiring the name: in Wagner's Ring Cycle, Brunhilde threw herself onto Siegfried's funeral pyre. This nebula is smaller than its neighbours and closer to the Galactic Plane (45*45*40LY, 355LY below) and many other nebulae in the Conflux can be seen from its borders.
.
'Proserpine's Garden'
Game map search ref: BLAA HYPA AA-A H36
POI Type: Visual
Unlike its neighbours, this nebula is rich in blue and purple colours but is still home to many neutron stars and white dwarfs, inspiring the name - Prosperpine being the wife of Hades who leaves once a year to bring spring to the outside world. It is very close (less than 700 LY) to the Pomegranate Nebula, fittingly, since it was the consumption of this fruit that condemned Proserpine to her stay in the Underworld. 90*90*75LY in size and 1165LY below the Galactic Plane, its has plenty of space for wandering with many stellar remnants.

'The Pomegranate Nebula'
Game map search ref: BLAA HYPA AA-A H53
POI Type: Visual
Sharing the orange-red colours of two of its neighbours, this nebula is also filled with many neutron stars, resembling a pomegranate with its many seeds and located appropriately close to Proserpine's Garden (just 700LY away). At 120*110*125LY in size and with the stellar density to be expected 740LY below the Galactic Plane in the region, it may also entice many explorers to stay awhile.

'The Cobweb Nebula'
Game map search ref: PLIO AIM AA-A H1
POI Type: Visual
Watching over the Conflux from its border and positioned high above the Galactic Plane like a beautiful cobweb, this nebula entices travellers with rich but subtle pink and blue colours. It is rather larger than a typical cobweb (105*85*90LY, 570LY above the Galactic Plane) and thankfully there does not appear to be a spider present: the star density in the region is low so there are few stars within the nebula itself. Its location gives it a clear view over the expanse of the Conflux and also looking back towards the other nebulae closer to the Core regions and across to the Gatehouse Nebula.
.
I'm reporting the other results of my expedition elsewhere but the main findings amongst these nebulae, from the point of view of archaeological interest, were two systems with Earth-like Worlds, three with Ammonia Worlds and two with landable terraformable worlds around the Corpselight Cluster. There was also one system of scenic interest near the Cobweb Nebula.
