Just as a general note, if a small nebula contains a black hole or neutron star then it should be more properly called a Supernova Remnant.
A Planetary Nebula is specifically a shell of gas/dust that has a white dwarf at its centre, caused when a red giant puffs out its outer layers to reveal the WD core. I don't know if these even exist in Elite Dangerous though - has anyone seen a nebula centred on a WD?
This is technically accurate. I've never seen a WD nebula (some giants can be as well, as they tend to eject shells in bursts, I think I've seen some hand crafted ones out near Orion).
As far as what stellar forge is putting out procedurally -- it's 90% Neutrons and 10% Black Holes. It also means that pretty much all Planetary Nebs by Mapping efforts are Remnants. It would probably be easier just to lump remnants and PNs together into the same catagory. Much like larger scale molly clouds both emissive, reflective and diffuse are pigeon holed as nebulae.
It's pretty par for the course stuff, after all "Planetary Nebula" is a *bad* name for these objects that Herschel lumped us all with.
