The Galactic Mapping Project & Historical Archive of Exploration

One interesting thing for some of us who actually ARE far out in the black is whether we'll be able to access the exploration-related Odyssey equipment in some way without first coming all the way back to the bubble. For example, will Fleet Carriers be able to sell some of this equipment?

True, while pre-order alpha players get access to the explorer version of the pre-order suit, which I presume will come with the organic life sampler, what about others? Will the life sampler be default equipment or do you need to purchase it like guns?

The Galactic Mapping Project has now reopened.

Please note that we will no longer accept certain Horizon's-only points of interest as their presence within the galaxy may be short-lived.

According to a Frontier announcement, the current graphical properties of Horizons will only exist until the console update later this year, thereafter they will be upgraded to those that Odyssey is offering.

The Geological and Topographical POI categories will be affected by these changes, therefore submissions to those categories from Horizons clients will not be considered for inclusion in the GMP until the Odyssey console launch, or until the content is made consistent between the clients.

Existing Geological and Topographical POIs that are currently marked on the maps will likely need to be archived if they've radically changed (or no longer exist) in the Odyssey client, and this is something we hope to do once Odyssey explorers have reported their findings on such locations (if you want to help with this process, please see this thread
Link).

Additionally, and with the new content coming from May 19th, the GMP team will take some time to process the first few batches of new submissions as we don't want to add everything and anything just because its new and novel content. We'll need some time to look at what evidently becomes commonplace, against submissions that stand out and turn out to be exceptional, or rare.

What does it say about what Frontier has...
...ACCOMPLISHED...
(full sarcasm tags)
That there are far more Archived POIs on the EDSM Galactic map now than there are of current really cool locations?
I shudder to think of what has happened to Labirinto. I bet if I go back there now it'll just be a featureless cueball rather than the beautiful canyoned world I visited during DW2.

wait, did they bring back that horrific ambient darkside lighting that they got rid of in horizons?
I've started thinking that it's not normal (or what it's supposed to be). Graphics are too ugly to be true, the neutron stars are almost a square, and I've noticed I'm missing glows (my ship is too matte, including my pumpkin decals that are fluorescent orange and are now plain ochre), and the exploration trophies of my dashboard are not shining, they're plain black. The solar eruptions seem a bit solid instead of fluid... I'm gonna try to reset graphics settings somehow and look for support.

Greetings commanders. This is my first post. I have found a unique place and will report it. o7

I'll be very surprised if the original Labirinto exists in Odyssey. Its sad to see so many of the iconic POIs players discovered over the years now be consigned to the history books, but if there is a silver lining, its that we're now at the very beginning of a brand new chapter of POI discovery, which theoretically should produce some stunning new locations and vistas to enjoy. I'm sure there's another Labirinto out there waiting to be discovered.

Obviously that wholly depends on Frontier delivering an update that they were so eager to showcase and proudly tell us about. Fingers crossed it wasn't all hot air!
