t1600m and its a great stick as well
Not sure if your stick came with programming software or not, but if so you could potentially further double-up by including separate short press and long press functions.
Wish you could make your single hat do more things? Wish you had two?
I noticed a config for my Thrustmater T.Flight that had you bind a button press AND the hat, allowing it to do more.
It only occurred to me yesterday just how much more than can potentially be.
For example, the hat is normally set for power distribution, but holding down one of the throttle buttons and using it makes it a UI interface, switching from left to right screens or up to Comms.
Now with a different button I can rotate through ship targets (currently unmapped on the joystick, instead it's "nearest threat" and "in the crosshairs" target selections) by pressing up/down, and subsystem targeting by pressing left/right.
This has been a real help for me in combat, and no doubt I'll map the hat to another button for more options as they become required.
But I figured this might be a useful tidbit of information for those who feel they have no room left on their joystick or HOTAS setup.
Been thinking about upgrading from the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas to a Saitek X52 or X52Pro. Which one would be best for Elite Dangerous? Does one have more useable keybind spots than the other? Any advice would be appreciated.
I have the x55 but was planning on picking up the x52 originally. Unfortunately the x52 wasn't in stock when I went to purchase it and the x55 wasn't much more expensive. I don't have any complaints on the x55 other than the throttle could have more weight to stay in place when reducing throttle as it has a tendency to slide back if I don't put a little downward pressure on it. Of course I could mount it or use Velcro but it hasn't bothered me enough to do so. I love the toggle style switches (not true toggles, only momentary switches) for the tactile feel and having the option of using the independent throttles if I move to terrestrial flight sims. There is no shortage of buttons either so you could program everything to work off the x55 setup and still have the other two modes (M2/M3) available if you wanted to setup exclusive combat/hauling/etc configurations.
When I was researching joysticks I found the x52 would have fit my need just as well but having all the extra buttons helps. The x52 has an LCD screen that, if I remember correctly, just lets you choose between the preset modes (like the on the x55) and looks admittedly more futuristic. The x52 Pro has a better build than the x52 and the LCD is programmable I belive. It really comes down to preference for what you think will work best but you can't go wrong with the x52, x52 Pro or if it's on your radar, the x55.
How is your Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS in general and with Elite? I was thinking of picking one up for my son to get into Elite and use with his PS3 but wondering what it's lacking, especially if you're wanting to upgrade from it.
Its actually really nice, the bases can be combined or seprated, the throttle works well has soft click point at the center of it. I can fit a decent number of buttons on it but i do need to resort to the Razer Naga for cargo scooping, camera mode and a couple of other things. The throttle has a rocking style button the back that's rather large so it would be easy to reach and its great for tying to latteral thrusters on your craft. Joystick is really easy to use too it doesn't give too much resistance in my opinon. For a quick cheap hotas set up I'd definitely recommend it. I bought the game in Janurary and got it Its only available from 2 sellers on Amazon US so not sure how easy it will be to get if your.
