I wonder if somebody could give me some help with installing the correct drivers for the Thrustmaster Hotas X please?

I've downloaded from the thrustmaster site but every time I plug in the joystick it seems to install default windows versions. If I try to update them from the installed locations its reported that the lastest are already installed.

I'm sure I must be doing something wrong! I have windows 7 btw.

I have the T HOTAS X as a backup for retro games. It doesn't need its own drivers. mine didn't have any and it said in the installation sheet it doesn't need them (i.e. its simply 'plug & play').

Have used it with several older sims and it was fine.

Yes Scan seem to have the cheapest UK prices for new CH gear. My CH Fighterstick arrived yesterday so I'm going to be spending some time setting it up and experimenting with various mappings. I'll be ordering the throttle and pedals at the end of this month to complete the system. Woot!

Can i ask why you went for the fighter stick rather than the combat stick?

Trying to decide between them myself.

Purely on the basis of the numbers of hats. They are exactly the same stick except the Fighterstick takes 2 of the buttons and turns them into 4 way hats. I figured that would provide greater flexibility.

I think it's really a matter of personal preference.

Maybe my problem was already been discussed in this topic, but i'm not going to read the entire topic for that.

So i bought the HotasX and the stick is just too sensitive i can't aim at all with that, also the throttle seem to react a bit late. Can i somehow configure those?

If you're refering to the Thrustmaster T-flight X I might be able to help, I have that stick.

I'm not sure when you say sensitive if you're refering to the physical stick or the reaction in game? you can adjust the stick with a on the bottom that makes it firmer or looser. You can calibrate the stick and throttle in windows via the control panel if you need to. Anything else you would need to setup in game.

Yeah that one. I tried everything already what you said and nothing made it better. It's soo hard to point on a target, i can't do that at all. Now i just think i threw my money out the window.

It just takes practice, its a skill you have to learn. This said, try gimballed weapons then report back ;)

I'm playing since beta1 started and i know about gimbaled weapons, but i hate the fact that if i want to fly with that joystick i am forced to play only gimbaled weapons because other weapons need precise control.

Keyboard + mouse, i'm good with that, but many people said how awesome to play with joystick and how good the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X. Well maybe it's not that good. Wish there was more options to configure the stick...

Ah ok, all becomes clear. The truth is a stick is the best way to control your ship but no stick will ever match a mouse for targeting. This is why I stick to mouse and keyboard for most space sims, i've gone with the joystick this time because I've recently gotten into flight sims so I had the setup ready to hand anyway.

I have that same Hotas stick. When using it for a while you get the hang of it. I now scream in to stations and make the most awesome G's-pulling maneuvers. Outrun any bogey at any time. (He lied.)
No really, it takes a bit of time to get to know the stick. Xpadder lets you alter the dead-zone of the stick, which I set to almost zero... Very responsive...

Key assignment

Hi
Stupid question, how do i re-assign keys?

Forget about it...Found it. Stupid old me

Speedlink Phantom Hawk anyone?

Hi
Just came across think stick: Speedlink Phantom Hawk.
Looks kind of nice, has 8 way coolie hat, a 4 function D-pad and 12 buttons, plus it's cheap 8)

Has anyone here used it? Looks alot better then the logitech stick i was planning to get (Extreme 3) and did i mention it's cheaper?

Regards.

Im using my old trusty Saitek X-45. It's the predecessor of the X-52 but instead of twisting the stick for yaw, it has "finger-pedals" on the back of the throttle. It seems perfect for this game.

Now testing two joystick setup, on the left hand is much more better than the joypad configuration, I think I lost my G-Thumb :D

Remapping my hat control...

I would like to remap my hat control on my joystick to double as a "headlook" option. I normally use it as a thrust control which works great but would like it to double as a headlook option after I press a button to activate it much like mouse-3 does on the mouse.

Which option under controls would I alter to get this affect? I already have joy6 set to activate head look. Now I need to set my thumb-hat to allow me to look around the cockpit. Any ideas?

Thanks!!

This looks like a useful idea, not sure it can be done though - hopefully someone will post with a solution.
