That's good to know... well sort of ;)

I have raised a ticket with FD so hopefully they should be aware that they have broken controllers/joysticks soon.

Joystick: Worthog vs Rhino. Is z-axis an important feature?

I've slowly moved into dogfighting after a slow progression with trading. No A rated anaconda to fly, just a small upgraded mkIII.

Using the mouse, I'm struggling with flying so looking to dump some cash on a joystick.

Looking at the x55 rhino and the thrustmaster worthog.

For those with joysticks. How important is z-axis twist with regards to flying in ED?

This will be my first joystick purchase, so assume I have no experience, I don't.

This is an update for anyone else having the issue, I have not yet been able to fix the issue, I even resorted to deleting the 'Bindings' folder in the following location:

C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options

All it has done is create some fresh files/folders when the game starts and still wont allow me to bind either of my joysticks.

It's the thing I noticed the most moving from KB and Mouse to X52 Pro joystick. It makes docking from any angle a breeze, combat manoeuvres to get on your targets six so much easier and just general tweaking in take off and landing more intuitive.

I have no idea about the models you refer to but I do know for some high end sticks you also need to buy rudder pedals to get that z axis option.

The X-55 has some production kinks right now, so I'd push you away from that. I use a regular ass X-52, and I love the twist throttle on it. Your yaw is weak in this game, but it works at all times and is vital for micro-corrections. The warthog is a seriously impressive stick, but you'd probably want the yaw petal attachments for it. Which will bring the cost up. If cost really isn't an issue for you and you play a lot of flight sims, I'd look into the warthog. If you're just playing elite, I'd look into a less expensive stick like the X52 pro, X52, or even the Thrustmaster t-flight HOTAS-X, which isn't as cheap as it used to be but still is under 80 bucks.

I use a bog standard X52 as well (bought last month just for this) the twist is something that I consider essential. You may not get much correction from it, but what you do goes a loooooong way!

The Warthog is the best joystick i ever had, but it is useless if you don't have pedals.
So get a Warthog and some Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals, but compared to the Warthog they feel cheap.
Sadly there are no Thrustmaster pedals anymore so you might want to google "slaw device".

Thanks for your input.

I really am green as grass on joysticks. My only experience was the original atari 2500 which worked a treat with SWOS on the amiga.

I'm looking at the MFG Crosswind pedals if i went with the worthog.

However, although I'm only playing ED, it is sucking a large part of my spare time, so happy to get the best combo...

I got the warthog and was saddened by the lack of yaw (I was green when I got it and didnt research enough, stupid i know) but the HOTAS setup is truly amazing and the weight, whist a pain to move around at times after a session, gives your movements real tactile feel that you don't get with some other sticks I've tested with friends, also you can be a bit rough with the warthog which can be a good thing when your in a manic dogfight or to get away from an interdiction with a full hold of rares.

Now pedals are something I'm looking at picking up in a few days also, my dodgy old logitec from several years ago has twist yaw that I used on Evochron Merc and it was handy as hell, so having something to do that for the warthog I feel would round it out perfectly, now just having to research correctly the best option, just like yourself.

The X-55 has some production kinks right now,

Could you expand on that, please? Is it merely a supply issue, or is there some problem with quality control?

I have an X-55 and couldn't imagine being happier. I have yaw set to the z-axis. It's pretty stiff in comparison to my old Logitech stick, but since the yaw in this game is gimpy that doesn't matter much. I usually only use it for minor corrections on approach to docking pads or targeting. I think it would be problematic to fly without it entirely, though. There is a provision to add yaw to roll, but I didn't have much joy from trying it.

Can anybody report if dual controllers are working in 1.1 I don't have time to test tonight, and probably won't play until later in the week due to HW upgrade on its way beyond testing tomorrow evening, but if this appears to be a widespread problem (as one or two are reporting) this is probably a good thread to post detailed control issue descriptions in. I'd advise buying a 33k SW ship for the test too - by reports so far.

Finally completed my CH setup with the pedals. Having everything mapped out is great. Though I never expected how hard it would be for my brains to coordinate the whole setup. Ah well, I'll learn and adapt.

Muscle Memory is a wonderful thing. It won't take long to transition, but I'd consider spending time in the offline tutorials so you can unlearn safely. Your instinct to twist that stick will be maddening.

I ordered both Fighterstick and Pedals now and will see how it goes. My biggest worry is how much fine control I have in my feet :)
I abolutely want those many hats on that stick. Oh, and I'm actually one of the few who use twist for roll and x-axis for yaw.

Since YAW is a much slower axis than ROLL in ED, it's more natural for me to have YAW on pedals. No need for fine foot control, and it's far more useful in Supercruise in making small course corrections.

I used to have Roll mapped to pedals years ago, (in other space sim games like Freespace 2) and it wasn't exactly fun.

I have an old Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB. I'm not sure who gave it to me but I've had it for a long time. It does the job. I fly left-handed (I'm a southpaw), and in my right hand I use the mouse for mouselook. I have a Razer Naga and I'm really used to its button grid so most of my important key binds are there. On the left of my stick I have a Nostromo, and I use that for navigating the HUD and less important key binds. I originally had my y-axis bounding for yaw because after playing JTL for a couple years with a mouse it felt natural. Yeah, rolling felt like a pain with the twist so I switched and I'm trying to retrain my brain. Honestly this is the first game I've really made an effort to use my stick...I've always gotten by with a mouse. I use the hat for lateral thrusters (holding) and the two top mouse buttons on my Naga for the vertical thrusters. There's a little throttle on the stick that I use for, well, the throttle. The throttle is probably the one thing I don't really care for with my setup. I can adjust it with my right thumb but I usually end up letting go of the mouse and using my whole right hand.

It's kind of a wonky setup but it works. I'd like to upgrade to a HOTAS but it's not really financially smart to get right now. Also I tend to be pretty inconsistent with open-ended game that I like...I'll play them pretty hard for a couple weeks or a month and then not touch them for months.

i am actually using the x55 and was using the x52 before. i love the x55 .. a really good joystick. without a twist axis you may have problems with flying without pedals.
so you can say you have to pay ~350 warthog + 1xx pedals. maybe the better choice of authentic flying in all games. but the rhino x55 only is ~200 .. i would always choose the x55

Can all necessary commands be assigned to the TM Warthog joystick?

The reason why I'm asking is that I have the x55 now, and I absolutely hate it.. I've issued a refund for my joystick because of button faulty on arrival.. The upside with my X55 is that I did not have to use Voice Attack. I could assign every necessary commands to my X55... Except the missing yaw function, are there as many buttons on the Warthog as it is on the X55? It's hard to tell by looking at the pictures.
