I've got a T-1600M and it does the job, stick precision is great, but it's let down by it weird button layout. It would benefit form a second hat and a thumb trigger though. Side bonus is it can be used by lefties.

If you’re in Europe you can try tracking a Defender M5 Cobra down, good budget stick from a Russian company based on the Mig 29s flight stick.

I'm actually working out a way to modify mine to include just that. Just need to find a 4 or 8 way hat mech that is the right size...

Thrustmaster hotas x - for under 40 quid, its a genuine bargain.

I wouldn't mind seeing this sold at an independent (or even pirate, if they ever make it into the game) station, without any rank requirement, but higher (double) the cost. Kinda like a black market for expensive ships. Insurance value calculated accordingly of course.

Its not a novel definition, its the definition of best. For smuggling (lol), and mining (lol) there are better ships I agree. But for exploration, trading and pew v pew its the de facto king.

People cried that the Python did everything well (except exploring because jumprange). And it got nerfed. Guess what's next in line?

Aye, I'm agreeing with Efrit here - the Conda isn't "possibly" the best for some roles, it arguably is the best, particularly for the two roles mentioned specifically;

Trading - the cargo capacity of the T9 is the only stat that sets it apart from the Conda - and the only time this will be of benefit on the same trade route is if the route is less than the max jump range of a T9 (~13Ly vs ~21Ly, iirc). Otherwise the range of the Conda outweighs the extra cargo space. That's not even mentioning the size/shape (easier and safer to get through the letterbox at speed even with other ships in the way), the agility (both in SC and normal flight), the speed, the potential for much better defences...

Similarly, for exploring - the only stat that the Asp has it beat on is manoeuvrability. Max jump range on the Asp is around min jump range for the Conda (admittedly not that much difference in it). Throw in the potential for better defences (should you opt for them), more slots for AFMs and the like, bigger fuel scoop, less likely to be interdicted in the 500Ly band, general survivability (not sure about this one because I don't know if module/hull damage for overheating is percentage or point based - but either way, you still have more room for AFMs)...

Yeah, the Conda knocks the pretenders into a cocked hat, especially for those two professions.

I started with brand new X52 at release, but after around 10 days it was creaking and cracking to the point I thought it was about to fall apart ( particularly the throttle ). I exchanged it with Amazon for the X52 pro.

The stick on the pro felt quite a bit better, but the throttle was still creaking and cracking from day one and started to get slowly worse, so I returned it and ordered the CH Pro throttle and T16000M.

They both arrived a couple of days ago and I am finally happy with my control system. The throttle is simply superb with way more buttons in far more sensible/useful positions and the mini thumb joystick is just perfect for the thrusters. It is also built like a tank and feels like you could use it to hammer nails.

The T16000m is far more precise and much smoother in operation to both the X52 and the pro, and also has far less play which is fantastic for the £35 I paid.

I Will never buy anything from Saitek/Madcatz again.

Maybe I had bad luck but from december 2014 with normal use 2 Thrustmaster T.16000m are broken.
the first the left/right twist, and now today the second the trigger button and also the left/right twist is broken.
Now I need to find a new one for my left hand use but this type is the only one that is ambiguous

I crush joysticks below the Warthog in days...

The creaking on the X52 Pro is caused by excessive use that reduces the lubrication on the metal shaft. I put a tiny amount of lubrication on it after a few hours of play. Makes it like brand new. Many flightsticks will suffer from friction because of the inherent mechanical design that is required.

OK here's my issue to see if others have experienced similar/same:

I have a MS sidey 2 FF stick. I set Generic Joystick climb/dive as in traditional aviation style: pull back is up, forward is dive.
Now and again the game flips it round so have to 'p' or 'Esc' mid game to select y axis again, resume game,
see if it works, if not 'Esc' again and invert or normal, it can be on either.

Anyone found a similar problem?

No, I can't afford another stick right now! When I will, I will invest in a thrust pedal or a stick with TONS of column and big head buttons and castle/hatswitches for the thrusters. See Suncom F-15Eagle stick, like that sort of thing...

How is it connected. If it's by usb you might try to disconnect and reconnect without exiting. If it works you csn get s cheacheap usb "extension cable" or hub, to make it eady to reach.

the way space combat / sandbox games succeed in a game where ships are the only thing that you can buy is by making the balance of the game require multiple players to assist the bigger and more powerful ships. As long as such large ships require player assistance to be truly powerful, you maintain balance in the game as no single player can be "best".

So while i could possible rock a corvette and have insane weapons and such. Other aspects of the ship should make me vulnerable with a coordinated group attack on my lone ship or even a 1v1 against a battle conda. The role of a corvette needs to be offensive against other large ships and defensive against smaller. In a situation against groups of smaller ships, corvettes should rely mostly on fighters to take care of the attackers while supplying cover fire and re-pair/re-arm functions.

As long as FD follows the role aspect and enforces the need for assistance from other players for these larger ships, they will be fine.

As far as how that affects Solo. Let me be the first to say that i dont care. If FD wants to make it possible for Solo players to hire npc wingmen, great. If they dont, i'm sure I couldn't care less.

Nice post.

You made some very noobish mistakes (federation -> corporation !!!! ; Python can land on outposts) which seem to indicate that you don't overplay this game. Big ships are sort of candy for people that overplay the game, at least at the moment.

I like a lot of your ideas though. I like a lot of a lot of people ideas, tbh. Darn game, if you only you could be that good!

Yeah, my bad. I know Pythons can land in outposts....but I also know their range sucks -for an explorer's point of view, anyways. Didn't make it clear on my post, so I own that.

As per Federation not being equal to Corporations:

"The Federation is highly dependent on technology and is economically and socially Corporatist. In the period of rebuilding after the end of World War 3 on Earth (circa 2044-2055AD) it was the corporations who became powerful and dominant. In modern times it is the corporations who are the life-blood and backbone of the Federation. It is rumoured that these corporations have such influence and power that they can even direct the Federal government. Perhaps even to the point deciding who to elect as President."

This is from: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Federation

Know your faction. Been playing since Launch, an average of 4 hours a day, hardly a noob...but I don't know what you refer with "overplay", but I get that I might not be the target audience -evidently- for those ships. At the moment of the OP, Diamondback was not confirmed, btw. I am glad that it is now.

All of that, though, is irrelevant. At the end of the day, we still have gaps, lack of diversity in design, and seriously? could you tell that Federation is corporate and Alliance is not, from the game? What kind of experience have you had in game to show those differences?

Exactly my point.
