Bloody hell.

So is the X52 pro better than the thrustmaster x hotas?

What on earth does hotas mean?

HOTAS stands for Hands on Throttle and Stick.

Well, X52 pro looks better than Thrustmaster X HOTAS to me. Probably, you need to change the thread's title to something like Thrustmaster X Hotas or Saitek X52 pro. Or ask this question here:

Personally I am using X55 Rhino with Combat Rudder Pedals. And I cannot imagine the game without TrackIR.

Yeah, once I started playing with trackIR, I can't even imagine starting any of these games without it!
And if I do (sometimes start Arma3 without it) I feel so crippled its not even fun to play =)

Weird feeling how I sit there and turn my head all around without any response!

I have both X52 Pro and Track ir5 and I highly recommend both. get the x52 pro first then save up for the track ir 5.

the joystick is fantastic and I never once have to touch the keyboard for ANYTHING!

the track ir is so awesome just looking to the side and the UI pops up and I navigate the menus with the thumb hat switch. sick!!!!!!

and later this year the Occulus Rift HD :OOOOO MMM GGGGGG

This is what I did. and it works marvels. Add VA and you get total control over your ship without ever lifting a finger :D

depends on your personal capabilities.

i'm not as much capable of managing so much keys as i was 30 years ago ;)

so, the number of keys on my stick system doesn't matter as much to me (x52 here).
i replaced some keys with voice commands, works good for me (target selection, energy management).

Amen brother :)

I'd add some Saitek rudder pedals are great for yaw and lateral left/right fine tuning of aim and dodging too.

I've gone for the Thrustmaster as it's cheaper. I will probably get the Saitek next year as it does have more buttons, but for now the Thrustmaster will do fine.

I appreciate the DEVs giving the premium beta backers early access to the Alpha 1.0 single player combat build.

However I don't understand why they would omit code to fix a "bug" they have already corrected in the Alpha 3.x build for the dual usb joysticks/HOTAS such as the Saitek Rhino 55 Hotas, or the Warthog.

First impressions aside which, are very good, I don't want to play until the proper build is available, and my fence sitting clan mates are waiting to see which of the two anticipated Space Ship games is playable first.

My honest 2 cents.

I have gone from being in total ignorance of TrackIR to wanting one desperately in the space of one youtube video! Although for £130 it's not quite as essential as, say, a joystick.

There's a temptation to make my own from one of the sets of instructions on the net, but given that I've never successfully soldered anything I'd probably just end up with a glued-together lump of resistors and LEDs. :(

As you have mentioned multiple controller device support was introduced in Alpha 3.0. Single player and multiplayer became interconnected when multiplayer was added to the game (Alpha 2.0). It seems to me that it is impossible to just simply remove multiplayer from the latest versions of the Alpha (for Premium Betas) and devs are not going to spend valuable resources into creating a new single player version.

The single player version released to Premium Betas is the same single player version released to Alphas back in December 2013 - Alpha 1.1.

^^^This.

It struck me that the single player for premium beta was a gift to say "sorry" about waiting and whatever.

From FD's point of view they would have had the old 1.X build sitting around on a backup somewhere, and could simply pop that onto an upload server. Version 2.X and later had mulitplayer, which would necessitate extra work removing. All that work detracts devs from developing, which is where they are needed at the moment. Had FD not bothered to remove it, just block it, then you can make a wager that an enterprising beta person would hack the client in some way to access the multiplayer side, causing alpha people to be annoyed, other beta people to beg for the hack, dogs and cats living together etc etc.

Cleaning HOTAS..

Hello all,

I got the Saitek X55 and it is brilliant. Absolutely luv it. So much so i am thinking of buying another and keeping it as back-up.

But moving on.. I have a question..

I haven't seen a post on this yet, so forgive me if there has been..

What is the best thing to use to clean your HOTAS with?

After a while the greasy & sweaty hands get them a bit musty.. are alchohol wipes good for cleaning such devices?

Does anyone have any sugestions or tips?

Much thanx Commanders.

I cannot see why you cannot use alcohol wipes to clean. However, I do not have such problems with my X55. My hands do not sweat while I am playing and I think that it is due to the material used. Probably metal HOTAS has higher chance of causing hands to sweat. As for dealing with greasy hands - always wash them before using PC and you won't have problems caused by that. I even cannot understand how is it possible to use PC with greasy or dirty hands.

Considering buying another X55 as a back-up, I do not think it is a good idea. I would wait for something like X55 Pro. Also there is a probability that a modification of X55 will be produced that will be more oriented to Space sims.

Same way as you can clean a mouse or keyboard. My favorite is using hand-disinfectants (so alcohol based evaporating jelly).

A setup fot the g940?

Anyone happen to have a setup for the g940?

It seems the game does not recognise several axises as different. Left throttle and stick Y axis register as the same, right throttle and stick X axis register as the same, right toe brake also register as stick y axis etc...

This a problem with the game I take it? Fixed in later versions (I only have the early single player build as part of premium beta program) or borked in the newest versions as well? Anyone have a work around of some sort, maybe through some creative use of either the logitech profiler or game config editing?

/Merf - Wanted to have a go at setting and getting used to controls...
