Hi guys,
i ran into the same issue after september update.
Here is how i fix it:
In my win 10 installation was the dns client deactivated. I opend regedit an search for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Dnscache "
The value in the start DWORD key was set to 4 (disabled). I changed it to 3 and restart my pc. Now the service starts automatically and ED runs without problem.
I hope this could help somone of you commanders.

You can try to activate the service manually. Hit the Windows key and type "services". In the upcoming list search for "DNS Client". Look at its state. If it is running, you have another problem. If not try to start it manually. If it is greyed out, my previous solution should ungrey it and you should be able to start the service.
In my case the fault was, that this service didn't run. I wish you best luck.

...and here come the crazy "solutions" that NEVER work. Go into this folder, change that file from 1 to 2, type CMD/DNS...download ethernet drivers, buy new t-shirts and launch in windowless mode, restart your PC in Safe Mode and run as Administrator after forwarding all your ports, harbours and airports.
This stuff NEVER works and is not our side! One day the game works...download this update thing...broken. THEY DID SOMETHING so THEY need to fix it without all the cyber jibberjabber of going into files and folder and command lines!

If you are using windows 7, try to disable upnp in AppNetCfg.xml file
And where is this file AppNetCfg.xml?
I wonder if FD somehow compensate for our inability to enter the purchased game?

But I AM disappointed at the recent silence from Frontier Developments lately, especially as of light of this recent update.
Time to stand forward Frontier Developments. Make an announcement. If you do not you will not only lose a player base in this game... you will lose trust in any game you develop.
We have seen distrust in game developers but maybe you might need to take note of how you can redeem yourselves like Hello Games.

Stop messing with your settings and wait for a patch, you'll only mess it up even more
make sure you got all your windows updates and if you're still using 7 why the heck are you doing that?
It's free to upgrade and you can edit the security sections now when you're installing it.
