Your Neil Armstrong moment is a fade to black teleport outside... surely not?

In all seriousness there is a distinct group of people who absolutely focus on details and constantly miss the forest for the trees. It's related to a certain spectrum, you find plenty of them in sci fi communities. Heck Star Citizen is largely build on that perspective.
Yeah Star Citizen is a bit too much realistic in that regard IMO. At the very least I would like the option of "fade-to-black" and / or "skip the cut scene" for certain things in that game, like the hour long walk from your bed to your ship.

On the other hand, I really wish I had the option to buy a ticket for the train or stage coach in Red Dead Redemption 2 and actually RIDE the train and enjoy the view. I stow away on some random cargo car, but it's not quite the same. As it is, buying a ticket always results in a fade-to-black fast travel, and in a world so immersive as RDR2 (where we are forced to bath manually), it feels kinda out-of-place. But as I said in my own OP, Elite: Odyssey reminds me more of Mass Effect than it does Star Citizen or RDR2, so fade-to-black is fine for EDO.

In fairness this is what FDev teased us with 2.5 years ago:

Anything less would be a disappointment 😜

I'm still expecting disembark to involve the elevator, just as the SRV deploys in first-person from a section of the ship, we'll probably FtB from the cockpit chair to the airlock point, step out, and... well. One small down escalator for man, but still a giant leap for space games.

Neil Armstrong is so 1960s.
I'm fine with my Star Trek moment
Reg Barkley advises against it!

My ideal scenario is you fade to black, then cut back to a VERY brief clip of the last part of putting on your exosuit just behind the airlock(like pulling on a glove or something), and then you hit the airlock open button and you walk out onto the steps and regain control.

Total time: about the same as deploying the SRV, but it would be ideal if you could make the last steps onto the planet yourself.

I'd like it if fdev added a small chance of tripping up as you walk down the ramp, leading to face planting on rock/ice, smashing your visor and doing a deflated balloon dance with the resulting explosive decompression. To the sounds of Space Odyssey by David Bowie.

I think they should have at least placed you at the top of the ramp as the hatch opens. The only animation required is the hatch opening, so that wouldn't become tedious.

Fade to black is corny. But I'd prefer that over some half attempt to over compensate with animations and whatnot.....
Standing on the ground, after pushing a button and fade to black sort of... epically changes that.. But it is what it is.
Well I might be missing something here.. but the SRV launch 'fade-to-black' does have some animation of a sort included. Fade-to-black then you find yourself in the SRV seat (identical to the ship seat for sure)..THEN you get the SRV Hangar elevator 'animation' as you plummet to the ground in your SRV...

.... I'm pretty sure there WILL be some element of 'animation' to the 'Legs' deployment... Fade-to-black then elevator to ground perhaps looking down at your boots as you leave that ubiquitous boot print in the dust of your 'Armstrong moment'.... who knows, but I bet it'll be summat similar. o7

P.S. For you younglings (?Ydiss)... Space Odyssey by David Bowie is actually 'Space Oddity'.... splitting hairs but there ya go. o7
P.P.S. Lets hope FDev end up with an Odyssey and not an Oddity...o7

The transition will be consistent with every other one currently in the game, no point rewriting the base code at this point.
Would love a natural progresssion from the pilot chair but I don't expect to see it realistically.

I don't realy care about a fade to black transition, an animated version would become boring and tedious very soon.
Heck I wish I could fade to black from my house into my car and vice versa.

It shouldn't be difficult to implement such a transition for Odyssey. Use those assets for the game.

Seconded. Can we get a confirmation from the devs?

bit weird. I really thought you'd fade to black your way to a little alcove and the exit door would open in front of you. maybe this would all be on rails, and then when you stepped through, you found yourself on a landing, and you would be in control and just jump down or maybe climb down a ladder or whatever.

probably because the ships are all so different.

maybe when the ship interiors horizons for odyssey drops.

Perfectly fine with not having to watch an animation every time. Then again, my thrill at watcing a hardpoint's weapon get removed and replaced in outfitting passed about five years ago now, so perhaps I'm just easily pleased. I'm far more interested in gameplay than transitions.
Weapon switch animations forcing you to watch is both a prime example of bad transition and so surprising it still exists today. It adds nothing.

Wonder how many hours of our lives have been spent watching this pointlessness...

Did you read my original post correctly?

I'm not on about brushing my teeth, putting my suit on, opening airlocks, getting weapons from the weapons locker etc.

I said an animation of getting out of your seat and walking to the cockpit door THEN a blackout to cut out the rest of the ship interior THEN an animation of walking down or climbing down the exterior ladder.

So your entire argument is defunct, mate.

One of the main issues I'm pushing, and I will push it again - because believe me it sounds like you need it spelling out again. Is how stupid this will look from the outside or from the cockpit when other players do it if they just magically vanish and appear.

It's about finding that balance where you can play the game without seeing the obvious gameplay mechanic poking you in the face, and saving the devs having to do loads of work to move around the cabin freestyle only to make the rest of your ship redundant till a later date (assuming full ship interior gameplay comes at some point in the future).
Gets really annoying after the 5th time. Know why? It takes control away. All these breaks do.
