so far, it works pretty well. at larger stations, it will queue up and wait for others to get out of the way, and it observes "stay to the right" rules (interesting, given the nationality of the devs).
Ummmm..... wouldn't that depend on the orientation of your ship?

So does the "next update" mean this week? I'm not familiar with the patching practices. I haven't played since Saturday so maybe it's fixed already.

It'll be the next major revision. There's a lot of fixes/changes going in and it needs time to iron out all the niggly little problems and test everything. I can promise much smoother landings, better navigation... oh, pretty much better everything related to docking, both AI and DC. Had a few nasty surprises last time, so hoping to get rid of all the bugs this time. It's been quite a task, but the results are worth it. :) At least I think so. ;)

duh. good point.
But I made about a dozen docks yesterday, the DC always stayed to the right. Interestingly, even if I was lined up perfectly, a few times it did flip and then move to the right, so maybe it's aware of a proper orientation to get into before docking.

The green lights always have to be on the right. The red flashing lights to your right and up and below you. Lights are switched inside so you always know where to go in and where to crash. :D

Be careful with that statement, I envisage someone saying "But Sarah said she would fix ALL THE BUGS!" :D

I still wish they had taken my suggestion to leave the Basic Docking Computer alone, and introduce an Advanced Docking Computer to run the new code. This shakey shakey makes me sea sick, I would rather run slower and smoother.

Cool, thank you!

Update is desperately needed 2 crashes 700,000 + bounties and cargo is costing me :( .... its the Hokey Cokey bit at the end that does it and when you lift off it finishes off the slide to the left move lol

I have been off exploring for the last month, all of a sudden the docking computer seems to be a little bugged. Is this is known issue that is being worked on?

On one occasion I left it to dock while going to make a cup of tea, I came back to find it sat in the middle of the letterbox loitering (managed to take control just in time). No other ships were around. (I use solo mode).

Another occasion the ship went through the motions and then just sat a few metres above the pad. Eventually I took control and managed to land safely.

Never had a problem with it before (other than a scrape to my 'Conda) but it seems that it is a little bugged right now. In general I notice the control movements are quite jerky resulting in quite a lot of shudder upon docking. FYI I am currently flying my Python.

Not sure if this is a known issue or one that needs to be ticketed.

There are known issues, and tweaks coming to the Docking Computer in the next update.

NEVER EVER leave the Docking computer alone to do it's thing. Its like going to the PAUSE menu :) Just Don't. (Yes I know they renamed the pause menu to game menu, but still don't)

Thanks for reply. It always used to be reliable, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect that it would actually dock the ship with a high level of confidence (obviously not 100% but close).

What it is for if one cannot go and make a cup of tea while docking? That's the only reason I bought it :)

It's there to make life for the pilot easier, and hopefully get him through the slot unscraped; That can be a real challenge in a T-9 or Anaconda. But it should not be left alone unsupervised.

well looks like nothing has changed still doing the Hokey Cokey just before touchdown :{ ........ are you going to do anything about this?

So would that be "yes" to the psychotic serial-killer Combat AI ships then, as well as clever Docking Computers? ;)

Just hope that Sarah Jane doesn't conflate the two into a psychotic serial killer docking AI. Think Christine from the eponymous Stephen King crossed with HAL crossed with K.A.R.R. from Knight Rider with a dash of D.O.R.I.S. from Mostly Harmless.

I left the house once while the docking computer was doing its thing. Bring the ship in range, "Docking Computer Engaged", then left the house. Came home to a Type 7 full of cargo ready to be solded.
In fact, everything I dock using it, I walk away or turn and watch TV.
Never had issues with the update.
