Thargoid Data Gathering Effort: We need your help!

It's the same sound you got from one of the Audio Logs that gives you the maps but the image is to the left side of the maps I just stretched it more to be seen better.

So the sound you get when you honk a probe with your discovery scanner?

Edit: No wait...it's the one from the link isn't it.

Only reason why no one couldn't see it cause of the maps, on the left side it was so squished in together no one couldn't really identify it I stretch it out to find this.

Edit:

decided to put a B/W filter for better visual all my settings you can see on the upper left hand corner of the window if you wish to try yourself the toggle on the buttom left with the blue I used to stretch it out or you can simply use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to adjust it.

I don't know myself, but good job for spotting that!

Hi Everyone,

New here, I'm a fan of the original on the Beeb and started playing on the PS4 a few weeks ago. Since getting into it, I've been researching the storyline avidly, and utterly intrigued. I started off just going around doing missions and got myself an asp explorer I'm now flying around in. I'm particularly interested in the Thargoid storyline and been following it from a lot of sources.

Anyway, I've been flying around all the Pleadies sector, just having a look around, encountering the thargoids at unknown signal sources, and at the sites where the last community goal was, but my ship is still woefully unequipped to deal with any kind of serious threat.

Now I read a lot of this thread, but I may have missed something, and it's been bugging, so I have to ask...

I've visited the areas where these interdictions are supposed to occur, just looking for meta alloys to unlock farseer, looking up sites and so, but still flying around the sector, but I haven't got interdicted from witchspace. I've encountered the thargoid at a wreck site, it scanned me, yadada, but i took no action and just watched it. Itr left me on my own, did this a few times, just anytime it looked angry, I backed off.

How many of you here have taken offensive action with one of these things in the past? From what I can tell, it's pretty much impossible to not get scanned, what if they're sharing that data like you are here, and identifying cmdrs who make trouble for them? Just like I see posts here trying to analyse the symbols?

Not sure if this has been asked before, so, so, much info.

I personally haven't ever shot at a Thargoid yet, have rammed a few out of annoyance though! Lol (it took an escape pod I was trying to scoop), I know many of the other cmdrs here have also not fired on them, but not all.
FD did say they were going to monitor our interactions with the Thargoids, but we have no idea (AFAIK) to what detail.

Good to have another Beeb player join us :). Disc or tape version?

Regarding the planetary scan monitoring. I think I need a little help working out how to split the planet into sections.

# 200km will take around 8-12 minutes to survey depending on speed. A nice round number
# Merope 5C Radius = 1,478 km
# Merope 5C Circumference = 9,286.54 km
# sections around circumference ~ 46

However what I am not sure about is what distance between tracks.

If you travel 200km at approximately 2km hight what distance are you able to survey either side of you?

I think detectability here is dependant upon: size of object, draw distance, contrast of object against terrain, background, obscuration (terrain, dust etc), lighting conditions, pilot’s concentration and eyesight acuity. I would recommend doing some practical tests, say someone in a small ship (e.g. Adder) lands and someone passes at different heights & distances to get a feel for the detectability. Test should be reproduced with different size ships & lighting conditions & terrain, just to confirm your figures. You can do the detectability calculations from theoretical performance of the human eye but this isn’t real life & the game implementation might be a significant factor.

Welcome :D
I've never (intentionally) shot at a Thargoid (accidentally once when I had the wrong group selected and shot instead of scanned!). I've been hyperdicted and scanned twice (once before 2.4, once after). To date, I've never been attacked by Thargoids unprovoked - whether those two are related I don't know. It seems that the majority of reports are of the Thargoids firing in retaliation (for some action), and few of them are Thargoids firing unprovoked, however of those, it's hard to know which have been provoked in some way that the commander did not realise - there's a well known thing that happens sometimes when you drop out of SC too close to a Thargoid it will immediately go red and launch Thargons, it's the standard "proximity response", but many commanders see that as "unprovoked hostility" - so it's tricky. I've seen videos that do seem to have shown a totally unprovoked attacks for no reason that's visible.

Le-Betz (post here) recently fed Thargoids a LOT of meta-alloys, and successfully disproved that doing so will make the Thargoids friendly to you (in his video, ironically, they got angry at him after a few minutes and attacked!).

There's been a theory floating round that, as you say, the more you attack them they log you as hostile, but AFAIK it's not been proven one way or the other. My overall impression is that the Thargoids don't have a memory of specific commanders - but that's just my gut feeling.

I also don't think these are Thargoids - I think these are "drones" (the wrecks after destruction have never shown anything that looks like a Thargoid corpse, for example), and they're too dumb to be Thargoids. If that's the case, I doubt us destroying them really matters to the Thargoids since these are just disposable drones doing a cleanup job (in FFE lore Thargoids considered sacrificing drones to be insignificant). Entirely speculation, but I'm sticking to it until something better comes along!

Well that's pretty amazing Cunder, nice work :)

What are you guys seeing there? I'm not an expert at interpreting sonograms so it's sometimes hard to tell what's noise and what's imagery.

I'm seeing what looks like the icon for the Link?

And the --l -l- l- is new! look there's a new symbol there at the end!

The thin vertical structures, are they just noise or are they part of the image? I ask because look at this post : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...s-Compendium?p=6122262&viewfull=1#post6122262 someone noticed some white markings on a bit of the Thargoid wreckage that looks quite similar.

EDIT: Cunder maybe you can take a pass at all the other audio records just to see if there's anything else like this?

Tape, then disc, i was so happy to get a disc drive!

Thanks!

I'm not so sure, that they're scanning and looking for things, it would imply they're reporting back, and there's all sort of things around hive mind, it would be interesting if they held vendettas, or were testing capabilities of more able CMDRs. Was it unknown transmitters that also scanned your ship and broadcast it's shape? To what? And then they're going to barnacle sites and doing what, caring for them? It might be a mistake to think they don't care about their things.

I kinda agree they might not be the thargoids of the original version, I still haven't quite figured out how much this version differs from Elite of old, they may well be some sort of tool, or a remanant of the original thargoids, or something that got out of control.

Yeah same here, tape>disc, disc was soo much better loading! :)

There was a DISC version?????
Lol, yeah, was so much quicker loading, & that version gave you 2 missions :)........ Not rubbing it in am I? ;):p

Oh btw I've got an Imperial Eagle if anyone wants a small ship to spot.

I will look into the other audio

Has anyone even figure out what the lines mean?

Be honest every detail the developers put into this stuff is meant to be cracked they just don't put something that stands out deliberately.

Oh, sorry, I get you now.

If you watch the video he posts later in that thread you can see that there's some similar-ish white lines on other parts of the wrecks, they look (to me) a bit like maybe they're supposed to be cracks or something, so I wonder if that line is just part of the wreck texture that looks a bit odd.

It was only posted yesterday though, so if there's a solution I doubt it'll happen fast :)

Hip 1749a: This is a false sighting.Worth the trip though.Six suns and a shed load of of planetary bodies.

I'm going to grasp at straws here, but I have a theory

I'm assuming all the Thargoid sites are old technology the only reason why they don't operate as they should be we don't have the main source, and all those "stars" isn't just the universe it's a map of number of Thargoid sites in the universe. Usually when you mess with a site in a populated Thargoid system one of them comes by investigate the site and just leaves.

If the Guardians are the creators of the Thargoids, they been around for so long that the thargoids weren't as advance as they are now but, yet they always had the edge over humans. At one point in time they were never capable of long distance travel so to rectify that situation over the millennia they decided the best efficient way to travel in longer distance in shorter time is to develop sites in key places in the universe. As they create these sites what they believe would help them move from space as needed when it was necessary they could. But as time goes technology advances the sites obsolete when a single ship can open a hole/gate into space.

And now the Legend the myth comes in to play The Dark Wheel and Raxxla the stories goes “An alien construct that’s a gateway to other Universes, and all that’s in those Universes in a way of bounty, and treasures, and aliens, and life”. We never had this sort of technology to use it would mean we would have some advantage. Those who lived at Raxxla kept it secret they knew they have the advantage to its own race. The first thing when going through this gate is rich material, earth like planets and alien life.

Now the question is why the Thargoids show up in Pleaides sector today? We found these sites we were messing with them, but we don't understand them. We basically signal to them by accident as they still watch these sites. With the activity increasing as humans try to understand these sites the Thargoids took the choice but to get involved and trying to see what we know now and what we can learn and how fast. The Dark Wheel were over looked cause they were only so many of them nothing that could be detected flying under the radar.

Raxxla is the Thargoid source the key to opening the gates of all other Thargoid sites.
