Let's throw an excerpt from the Dark Wheel Codex into the room.

Quotation: If you believe the legend, only the bravest and most capable pilots of every generation will receive the honor of being invited to join the group. However, it makes no sense to search for Dark Wheel on your own.

So my thesis is still that you can not get along without the combat rage "Elite" in the case of Dark Wheel and Raxxla.

Circe? Good system with the 8th moon around gas giant near (~500ly) the red K class star (unfort. not a giant one). And this is not arrival star ;) So I think this system will experiencing some traffic ;D

O7 good luck and fly safe CMDR.

*tinfoil* One thing concerning the jewel: In SciFi literature earth is often referred to as the „Blue Juwel“. As afaik TDW is quite an ancient Organisatio it might be earth is actually meant.

*tinfoil off*

I don't mind a triple elite requirement, but I really hope the above does not mean that a single pilot cannot find Raxxla on their own, in some lame attempt to encourage multiplayer, because that would suck.

I also hope it does not.mean you have to be elite in CQC or whatever it is called this week, because that would just be rude, and silly.

Almost found the Horizon Main menu background; only the Orbis Starport has somehow transmuted into a gas giant.

thats realy interesting. in english also Moon. Hmmpff
so i must be wrong because it's a translation mistake.

here is the litle fragment text in german

...dass die ursprüngliche Gruppe ihre Basis an Bord eine verlassenen Sternenhafens hatte, der um den achten Planeten eines namenlosen Gasriesen kreist.

what i can see too is, "eine" its not correct, it must be sounds like "eines". because "Sternenhafens" has the "s" at the end.

thx for the answer

Report it as a bug & see if FD respond.

O, no, friend. Not me. I'm too busy even for this easy flight while trying to make some money and the Elite explorer rank. And I haven't enough real time for it :( But anyway if someone else will found something...

No, no, I can't believe. It is just another system with mythological name. Nothing more!

I've been tying to look in to the mythological stories of the past and the hints and names used in ED, to possibly find a common link.

<snip>

Something going on in the Galaxy or just coincidences?

Nothing to add to this, but I just want to say you really do have a knack for laying out a bunch of information and tying it all together with a nice bow. This was a fascinating and informative read.

Ive already said it in the canonn discord but i dont believe the start screen menu is a real place in game because no matter how you place yourself, as long as the constalation is more or less correct you will allways have barnards loop in your picture.

The second picture is made around 150ly from sol in direction barnards loop. The only other way that the constelation would match with the start screen would be if you look at barnards from the "opposite site" so you would fly to barnards loop and them some 150-250 ly further in this direction but you would have the same problem that barnards loop is in the picture.
I dont think its a real playce in game. Or would it be possible for FD to "remove" barnards loop for the start screen so its not totaly obvious where it is?

Is it possible that the reason Barnard's Loop isn't visible in this image is due to the shot being taken too close to the star? A lot of dimmer stars/deep sky objects are pretty dim or washed out when viewed close to a bright star, not becoming more visible until several dozen LS out.

The Horizon's main menu image looks like a composite. If it was a real place the moons would need to be practically on top of each other or have a massive radius (Which is precluded by the massive ridges). The station in the images does admittedly look like an orbis gone dark.

Alexium67's idea of try to match the galactic plane seem like the more promising option. I

There is a system near Sol, CM Draconis, that has a special system description, a white star, but no planets. The system description mentions it being populated ( albeit a low population anarchy with an economy) so that seems kinda strange.

Something wierd about CM Draconis that I just noticed, after reading your post I looked the system up in the game, I had not yet been to the system and in the galaxy map under CM Draconis it read "No system Description is available", however after travelling to the system and scanning it the description now reads " Poor, low population extraction economy (anarchy)".
Very strange, does this mean systems without any description can change after being scanned? or is this a bug?

Here's what I am working on...

Using the method mentioned a few pages back that suggest looking at the Toast to Raxxla as a map and putting adding 'Go' as the first word you get something along the lines of 'Go to the jewel that burns on the brow of the mother of galaxies, To the whisperer in witch space, the siren of the deepest void. The parents' grief, the lovers' woe and the yearning of our vagabond hearts, to Raxxla'

Using this I took the jewel that burns on the brow of the mother of galaxies as a reference but to what area of the galaxy I don't yet know, the only thing that came to mind straight away was the minor faction, Mother Gaia but this theory will need some work.

The next part that stood out to me was the siren of the deepest void. Looking at the galaxy map on the codex there are two regions that seem to relate to this, Lyras Song and The Void.

Starting with Lyras Song, the Greek meaning of Lyra is Lyrical, a direct connection to song and therefore sirens as mentioned in the toast.

Lyras Song according to the codex reports contains 8 gas giants, these are a Water Giant, Gas Giant with Water Based Life, Gas Giant with Ammonia-Based Life, Class 1 GG, Class 2 GG, Class 3 GG, Class 4 GG, and a Class 5 GG

There are 18 planets in the region, one Earth Type, 1 Ammonia, 2 Water PLanets, 1 Metal Rich, 2 High MEtal, 2 Rocky NA's, 1 Rocky Ice, 1 Ice NA, 1 Metal Rich with Atmos, 2 High Metals, 2 Rocky with Atmos, 1 Rocky Ice with Atmos and 1 Ice Planet with Atmos

Now looking at the codex reports for The Void

Eight Gas Giants again, these are, 1 Water Giant, 1 GG with Water Based Life, 1 GG with Ammonia-Based Life, Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, Class 4 and a Class 5

Eighteen reported planets that are 1 Earth Type, 1 Ammonia, 2 Water Worlds, 1 Metal Rich NA, 2 High Metal NA, 2 Rocky NA, 1 Rocky Ice NA, 1 Ice NA, 1 Metal Rich with Atmos, 2 High Metal with Atmos, 2 Rocky with Atmos, 1 Rocky Ice with Atmos and 1 Ice Planet with Atmos

I am still trying to find a connection (if any) to the last two lines, The parents grief, the lovers woe and the yearning of our vagabond hearts - if anyone has any ideas on this??

Hopefully, this hasn't already been looked into, I haven't read every single post in this mega thread [big grin]

It depends on who is the mother of galaxies.

For Milky Way, the mother appears to be Hera, with Milky Way being created from her milk. But Mother of the Galaxy may not be the same as Mother of Galaxies, and the problem is that it's unknown whether or not the Greeks even knew of the existence of more than one galaxy. In any case, you're possibly looking at Hera's crown or jewel or pendant.

Otherwise, if you're looking for literally, non-myth, possibly the SagA* black hole may be it, if it has a role in holding the galaxy together and causing stars to form within it. Can look at theories of galaxy formation.

SagA is just the big child, gravity is the Mother of all galaxies :D

There was a post indicating if the Mother has even one galaxy child, she’d still be called Mother of Galaxies, it’s an English language thing.

If gravity is the mother, may it be visible? How? By a superclusters? Where are this things placed on the our sky? On the our game sky? I hope you can understand what I want to say.

Just a tiny note on interpreting accents in the old lore on the web - these are all OCR'ed scans of the original paper - they contain hundreds of mis-scans, including accents and other artefacts including miss-spellings - I wouldn't waste your time..

Seems to me that the new clue of the toast in the codex is our fattest hint, and yet we have not one coherent story for each aspect of that toast.. we must be looking at it from the wrong angle..

there’s a supercluster as one of the sights to see on the DW2 expedition, near Owen Mining base. Around PW2010 210 sort of area.

not fully convinced by the “English language thing” and “mother of galaxies”, and I’m an Englishman. You might say that black holes in general might be mothers of galaxies if they are actually white holes and generate said multiple galaxies. I tend to be a bit pedantic and would say either galactic mother for one galaxy, or mother of galaxies if she had produced one or more.

hence I would suggest the mythology clue might need to be re-examined. If I remember correctly Cassiopeia produced Andromeda which is one galaxy, but did she produce any other offspring which have been used to name other galaxies?

just a thought! :)

I still think there is something to be said for Lyras Song, when you look at the image for Raxxla on the codex it's a question mark over the galaxy map, there are a number of bright systems shown and the borders of two neighboring regions. Now is it just me or does the most prominent area of those two connecting borders match up with the Lyras Song region?

Posting from mobile at work so I can't include the image, I'll be looking at this more tonight
