I'd expect it be later rather than sooner, seeing as this is a big one.

And I can't remember from previous betas, but is the main game "offline" whilst they prepare the beta servers ?

No, main game is untouched.

However...there may be a new launcher that needs to be downloaded. Also, if one decides to download the beta, they will not be able to play the main game while the beta downloads.

No, not everything will be in beta. Some parts of game and narrative will be still secret. They will be not in beta but they will be in live version when chapter 4 will be out.

I have it from the highest authority, one who knows all the answers,who's word cannot be disputed or questioned that we can indeed do what we want in beta. That authority is me mum, who knows ALL of the devs and mods And their Mums.
