You made the mistake of only looking at the picture, you also need to listen to them. There it is, the roadmap.

Listen to them say what?

At this point using SC examppe is really rich, as it is not game and there's very little indication it will be one.

Other than 2 million "sales" and 300 staff working on it, no, there's no indication of there being any game there at all after 5 years development work.

I think it's 400 staff now.

For certain ED fans SC is "the enemy". Just go read a couple of pages of the SC thread down in the bowels of the forums and you'll see what I mean. The only thing I can think why they spend so much time down there sneering at anything that comes out of CIG is fear that SC will be a much better space game than ED.
They've already gotten the David Braben tattoos across their backs so there's no room for Chris Roberts.

I find it HIGHLY unlikely ED will last even half that. The game is 3 years old and is not yet fully fledged (it lacks even basic comms and features ANY mmo has) either by design OR malpractice. People try and shoot down SC but at least they are designing AND building the game players want, not a vision that is sold and not delivered on. The white knights can bleat all they want but the facts remain, ED is crap once you get past the "oooh" 5 minutes in.

I've swung from being a certified ED fanboi to being accused of becoming "embittered" in the last six months, and even I have to just roll my eyes at SC comparisons. I have a number of hardcore PvP friends who angrily stormed away from ED to embrace SC's greener pastures, only to come slinking back because SC was such an unfinished piece of garbage. Your blind wish fulfillment regarding SC is bewildering to me; at least with ED we actually have a game we can play, and they're not charging us big bucks for imaginary ships that probably won't see the light of day in this decade.

yeah S42 is (relatively) easy I would imagine... even then tho... no VR, at least its low down on the priorities... this really peed on my chips and is where FD really were on the ball imo, even after all this time ED is still in the top flight of VR games.. i would imagine 75%** of VR owners have ED and that surely must be a good few sales.

**number plucked out of my backside

You might want to try combat air patrol 2 - it's very early access but has VR support and it's a harrier and they're making a dynamic campaign for it so I'm keeping an eye on this one. One criticism of the game I saw was the control setup being very difficult but they might have fixed that by now but it looks amazing in 2d so in VR I'm expecting it to look jaw dropping.

This I don't get at all.

1) We all have brains and they are capable of playing more than one game over the course of our lifetime.

2) Why wouldn't you want 10 great space ship games to choose from??

Let's get some perspective :p

Nobody here is like this with Board Games!!! Nobody is saying monopoly is better than mousetrap!

Nobody is a fanboy of snakes and ladders - why in the heck are game developers held so highly? They code stuff. That's it!

It's $45 for the basic package so there's no "big bucks" charge at all.

I think you will find if you actually talked to the people on the Star Citizen forum, that they all would love it to be a success. I would too. ED and SC are very different beasts and will cater to different playstyles.
But I have been disillusioned by the continous lies from RSI/CI and some of the dreadful game decisions. Peronally, I have lost all faith in the project.

i want ED to be the best game it can be.
i want SC to be the best game it can be
(etc etc etc)

the problem we have at the moment is that SC is not out.... until it IS out what we have is a product which is grounded in the real world, with all her warts on show (elite), vs one which is NOT released yet, where all the players dreams are still intact and none of its failings are set in stone yet and the devs only let you see the shiny bits they want you to see. (almost like the time of the elite dev diaries, with peek of the week and the early alphas)

All i can say is, the version of SC I have access too is nothing like the videos i have seen coming from CIG.

ie it is rare for the reality to match the sales shot

that is not to say i wont continue to badger FD to at least make best efforts to release the content they teased me with

$45 is even too less - if paid to me for <cough> just playing this "game".
Seriously, we've got ships for free at least in ED. That's where the "big bucks" are flowing in SC and you know that.
Don't play with your credibility...

My credibility is intact and will increase in a few seconds.

Just like in Elite Dangerous, in Star Citizen you start with one ship and you work your way up the ships in exactly the same way. All ships in SC will be free on release. You pay for them earning in game credits and I'm surprised you have no clue about this for someone sounding so sure of himself.

Exactly. Pointless comparing SC and ED at the moment.

Agreed with most of things OP is writing. I don't care what will be after year or ten years in game, because I may be dead till then... But this is strange to play the game, exploring and in the same time watching other things in second monitor, and then such people are saying "this game is great fk you hater" What's wrong with gamers these days :D

Admittedly I don't owe the game (never will) and so in all my naivety I thought the crowdfunding process must be long over by now - after how many years and after how many million dollars raked in? Otherwise I couldn't imagine how people halfway sane in their mind would pay these insane real world ship prices for ships that they even can't use right now (Combo Packs for 10000$, helloooo?). Oh got it, it's still for ongoing crowdfunding purposes. Makes sense, sure... [where is it][alien]

I remember wartching Angry Joe joyfully spending hundreds of $$$ on these ships (I suppose he makes a lot so he can afford it) and I just shook my head. Other youtubers were screaming over these ships - remember when you could buy a $15,000 package? Yes, fifteen thousand dollars LMAO.

They're still on sale now afaik - i don't really check. I just know you can pay c$45 for the crap ship and eventually will be able to trade up. That might have or may change but for now I believe that's the plan. So we now have to wait until 2022? That's the date we find out they push it back to 2025 LOL ;)

Curious - why will you never own the game?

ED is a playable game for sale.
SC is a concept game, with tech demo's, some incomplete playable alpha segments, and nothing complete. It is a work in progress (as is Elite). To compare the two is unfair to either company. You can look at Elite and say it needs this, that and the other thing, all of which SC will have and SC will have so much more. This is unfair to SC because this, that and the other thing, currently do not exist in SC. There is a lot of theory crafting in SC of what people think will be in it, and hope and dream will be. However till the game is released, that is all it is. Dreams and hoping just nothing based in fact.

The thing I will never get about the SC whales, and it's the same bafflement at the quince billionaires.

Surely a huge part of starcitizen is your career in star citizen. It starts in S42 and during that you meet people and make a name, which then leads to you get to start in SC with some contacts and a small ship where you work to build your career.
OR you can skip the entire game by paying an outrageous amount of cash removing any sense of achievement from the game.

Of course that's just my perspective . To each their own but I can't think of a more expensive way to ruin a game.

This is a very difficult game to start playing. The learning curve is very steep and the tutorials don't teach you very much. Sometimes, it can get a bit repetitive because the game is so large it uses algorithms to generate content. Sometimes the game crashes. I've spent a lot of time being furious with this game, I've spent time being bored and aimless, I've spent some time wondering what the point is. Sometimes the lack of BVR fighting is disappointing. Sometimes the flight physics takes me out of the experience. It's not hard sci-fi, although it's very convincing. I'm a hard sci-fi fan.

That being said, it's the best game I've ever played. I've been playing games for 22 years now (I'm 27). I've had this game since it launched on PS4 (I waited for news on the launch since I got NMS on day one and realized it was lousy) and I haven't played another game once. I've never ever found it to be a grind because as soon as I get bored of doing whatever I'm doing I just go and do something else. I'm 500 Ly from Sol, have no idea what to do next (have been away for a month) and I can't wait to play it when I get some time next week.

I think Space Legs would be really nice but I think the novelty would probably wear off quite quickly unless it included a ton of new gameplay (FPS, EVA, exploration, etc) so I'm happy they're working on core fixes. Same with owning capital ships or owning space stations, and frankly the only reason is that I'm not rich - I have 100mil and a decent PvE FDL. I have never grinded, I just take missions and compete in combat CGs. I don't care if people grind and I don't judge. For me personally I have an attention span of about 15 minutes for repetitive tasks so grinding trade would make me want to kill myself.

That being said, I'm sure there are ED players who are longer of tooth in this game, but I guess I want to say:

- All games get boring. I played GTA: O solidly for about 3.5 years, bought everything, did everything etc. I got bored and moved on. Maybe move on?
- Videogames are an art form, IMO. It's the prerogative of the dev team to decide what direction they want their project to take, not yours. You paid for the game on the disc or in the download, and they provided an amount of content you couldn't exhaust in a lifetime, despite the fact that it might get dull or repetitive. You may have given them money through the store, and feel entitled as a result. But you were paying for a product, which you agreed to and received and subsequently installed on your ship or on your person. It's a bit steep, sure, but you still agreed to the terms of sale. It didn't specify on the fine print "buying this paint job entitles you to decide you have the right to tell us we're doing a bad job because we didn't to the exact thing you have arbitrarily decided you wanted us to to".

I really wish there were certain features in this game but I'm not going to stop playing this game as a result.

That being said: if you are listening, ED devs, I would really love the ability to get out of my ship / SRV and put my feet on the ground. Could you do me a favor and announce a "we hope we will be able to do this by 2019" or even just a "this is going to be really difficult so we don't know/ can't do it". I don't care what the answer is, I just want to know. Also, I don't know who is responsible but the noises the FDL's engines make when drastically changing velocity in combat chills me to the bone. Great job, really immersive.

Tl;dr BE NICE. Email them your thoughts politely and don't whine about it on an Internet forum like the game has sharp knees or something.
