ANNOUNCEMENT Lavecon 2019 Content Reveal

From what I gather FD were specifically about Explorers being out in the black being unable to change their ship skins due to lack of stations. What is ironic is that most of that demographic are proud of the fact that their ships have no paint left...

Apt name :D

They add a way to earn cosmetics in-game for free, you decry it as a cash grab :D

They add noob onboarding. (Because they'd like them to stick around and buy the 2020 DLC. Which would also help keep the game alive for us vets). You see it all as a waste of resources...

I'll take that punt by the way :)

You just know how they are going to do it right.. you earn them 100 - 200 at a time potentially time gated and it takes 999,999 points for a skin or ship part but you can buy ARX in packs of 10,000,000 for the low price of $10. I have never seen ingame earnings of a "premium" currency add up to anything meaning ful without litterally weeks of grinding or paying the cash store fee

TBH I would probably buy out every cosmetic in the shop if the skins were priced at around a buck and ship packs maybe 5 but i dont know what it is about the mind of a game dev that constantly converts the term Microtransaction into Macrotransaction whenever they are balancing prices

You don't think that fleet carriers are majorish content? Plus Frontier manage to disappoint me even when it's minor content, I was hoping for something other than a revamped shop.

I'm sure I'll change my tune when the big reveal comes, we'll all have 2020 vision then.

I think fleet carriers are a nice feature (middling content?) and more than i was expecting, although i was hoping they would come before the big update.

If you think fleet carriers are majorish content, then FD are delivering more than you expected no?

WarThunder...................

you can pay money to burn through plane upgrades or you can play the game and just get them naturally.
I have a lot of fully upgraded planes and have not spent money doing it.

I aint saying this is a perfect model for ED, it isnt because Warthunder has golden planes = only earnable with cash = something i do not want in ED but am just saying, the research time in WarThunder is perfectly respectable without spending money imo.

(i did spend 20 quid on points.... because i felt the devs earned it but i used them to buy a few golden planes and to upgrade my crew instead - the last crew qualification is only doable with premium currency.)

Until you make it into the higher tiers. But I guess that's fair enough, it's F2P after all and people who make it that far have already had a lot of fun for free.

When you change the paint job the wear remains the same, it is only in Advanced Maintenance that you can fix it. Unfortunately you can’t do a partial wear repair on the paint.

Sounds horrible.
It is, very...
In STO they have:
  • Energy Credits (the basic currency)
  • Refined Dilithium (Can be mined and refined, or bought with real money) - used for fighters among other things
  • GPL/Latinum (mostly useless... a pair of sunglasses would set you back a few 1000 bars)
  • Fleet Credits (For buying advanced stuff from fleets/guilds, usually also needs dilithium)
  • 13 different kinds of reputation marks - for specialist stuff
  • Lobi Crystals (for mostly cosmetic stuff, but also needed to avoid other people's spam animations), found in gamble-boxes
  • LOL-Nuts (er Lohlunat Favours) - used for buying stuff on Risa during the summer event... gained from participation in said event.
  • AND Zen - basically cash shop credit. worth approximately US 1c, and can be exchanged for several of the others.

It's absolutely wild, and very terrible... Also confusing, and I've probably missed a few.

Cash shop is definitely a thing that needed dev time the most.... who would have guessed lol

other than that no surprises because this time they actually told us the truth, no updates till 2020 and than probably something

In other words FD proudly continues their walk along the mediocrity path

Despite the fact that it was promised for the end of last year, and will probably not arrive until the end of next year, making it 2 years overdue...

No. It's not appearing in the game as was shown but the technology is being used in the 2020 Update. I consider that particular bit cancelled.

I was hoping for some new good useful stuff.
Also still waiting for the Panther Clipper, Guardian engineers/shields/thrusters/frameshift/ships/gimballed weapons/etc. ..... hmmm...... seems to be i have to wait 1-2 years more. :cautious:
