Thargoid Attacks: Where, When and What you can do about it

Just docked at Garnier Station in Byeru Bese - Acropolis in system - picked up 3, 6 and 8 NHSS's on way in (toasted the scouts in the 3).

edit - Now at Lasswitz Port in Atroco - lots of NHSS 4's here - saw several 9's in Veja Manto enroute to here from Byeru Bese - might be worth alook if your hunting bigger game.
After improving my FAS loadout (it had some legacy mods still and I finally got the mats to mod some hull reinforcements rather than using MA hull reinforcements) I went to Byeru Bese and have seen the full range of NHSS there, from Threat 3 to 9. Threat 8 seems to be the most common, then Threat 4, at least that was what I was getting.

What on earth (space? ;)) is a in a threat 9!?

I'm currently gathering mats for Guardian weapons, I found the AX weapons nearly useless against the cyclops! (Although, could that have been because I didn't scan it beforehand to enable me to target hearts? Btw, I tried, but it was flying around! :p).

Oh, hey, we can sell hearts without being illegal now or was that saved for Chapter 4?

EDIT: Checked this out empirically (and Imperially). Yes, hearts are worth about 10k. (9.9 and some change) now in live. No illegal status.

A hydra plus scouts, they smashed my annie up pretty good.

Nothing less than Threat 4 in Atroco, Byeru Bese, and Lusonda (okay, there were two Threat 3s out ~50 odd "Non-Human Signal Sources"), but that's way out of my league; so much for that.

I'm returning to Lusonda tonight, with a T10 tank, full of shard cannons and multi's rather than my krait. I shall hopefully despatch a great many more. Last evening was my first foray into these illegal scout immigrants. Tonight, I shall be wearing my Mr MacKay peaked cap and will not be listening to any appeals.

but do you "Treat all Thargoids with equal contempt" lol

I'm confused - you're looking for NHSS less than 3?

3 is the lowest one with Scouts, and if you have problems with them then I would seriously consider asking for help with your build...

Thanks for your reply.

It seems I'm the one who is confused. I thought Threat 2 was the one with the Scouts (its actually Threat 4).

Ah well...

Killed Scouts in Lusonda all day long yesterday (it's a T-Bag system, after all) and 90% of the NHSS were threat level 4. Few NHSS 5, even fewer NHSS 6, all containing Scouts.

Happy hunting, o7,

In Lusonda too, 4s, 5s and 8s. Im sticking to the 4s lol. Tried a 5 on my own and barely escaped. I need to git gud. Getting hang of plasmas, still cant suss turrets out tho. Tho 'target only' seems to work 'ok'.

I didnt get along with canons as theres seems to be a delay?? I really like the plasmas though. I likle the way you hold and build up charge then release to fire. Like PA's.

LOL, Open is fun. Besides being interdicted frequently by some self-assigned Far God priests, now someone introduced an angry Medusa (having 2 swarms atm) to Lee Orbital (Lusonda), terrorizing the AXI fleet there. Went in 100% with max shields, landed @30% and no shields, but it's doable ;)

It looks way better in VR, this is from the control window :)

O7,

So long and thanks for all the fish. 1 week and the solid waste products hit the thargoid interceptor shaped cooling device.

Actually, it will be fun, after the keybind hubbub.

I'm new to this anti xeno thing and built a guardian gauss krait which works great against scouts so far. In Lusonda and have a couple of questions for the knowing;

  1. In Lee orbital there are no anti-thargoid missions at all. The system is swarming with thargoids and all everyone wants are fish and other bog-standard delivery jobs. Am I missing something here? Seems a bit off.
  2. I Subscribed to Factabulous thread updating where to find thargoids but is there an in-game way? loads of "damaged" stations on the map but only one "attacked" station. The "eagle eye" thing seems to predict attacks?
  3. All YouTube vids I’ve seen of tutorials on how to take down an interceptor show 1v1 Cmdr. vs bug. All i see are 4,6,8,10 scouts as far as threat 5 NHSS I think. If go higher do I have to kill 20 scouts before I can face an interceptor? More than 6 and I get swarmed before I can attrite their numbers to a manageable level.

1. No missions from local stations yet - should start to see them in Q4
2. Attacked station are ones that were attacked last week (they are on fire - worth a visit). After a week they switch to repairing and the fires go out. Repairing stations have been attacked, and need ... repairing (there's a galnet article, and a higher level summary https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/398977-Station-Repair-Totals) - basically ship them required goods - Operation Ida do this a lot - they also have a thread, but their Discord is better.
3. Higher NHSS (5+) have either scouts / scouts + interceptor / interceptor - it's pretty random. If you just want to practice on interceptors then the wrecked megaships out in the Pleiades are easiest - go to one and relog until you get the interceptor you want (they spawn Cyclops / Medusa / Basilisk / Rescue Ships randomly, but as you can relog in-place they are quicker than finding NHSS). Wrecks can be found in places like Electra / Maia - there are a few in inhabited systems around Merope.

Edit: Eagle Eye: https://canonn.science/codex/eagle-eye-installations/ - that's where we get the information that gets posted to this thread :)

  1. You can only get them from the Aegis megaships, wherever they might be. However they do not contribute to defending the system, and historically are rather glitchy
  2. If you go to the eagle eye stations , they emit a signal (morse code?) once an hour that can be decoded to give an attack location, or another point of interest to the thargoids.
  3. It's about to change, but how they were found previously, was by dropping in on an attacked megaship. Sometimes a curious thargoid will appear, so jump in and out until you get one. After the 11th, there will be thargoid combat zones with AX NPCs and a mixture of interceptors and scouts jumping in. You can find them in NHSS threat 5 and up, however it's not garanteed. If you drop in to a high level one, and see a supprisingly small ammount of scouts, it means an interceptor is about to jump in.

Nothing situation specific from a station that is under siege? Wow. Bit of a dev oversight there. I've not really paid much attention to missions for a long time. Hopefully they'll sort that as it'd add a lot. The new "incursion" states etc. should give them the mechanic to add these missions hopefully.

I've been researching the eagle eye system. And.... I'm deeply impressed some Cmdr's, (and i'm capitalising their titles there out of respect), have the nous and drive to work all that out. Hats off!

I'll keep plugging away till i can handle 8 x scouts at the same time. A Cheesy Sir-Robin-Reverski pops into my mind here as a method of crowd control. Like a Doom corridor but without the exploding barrels.
