I've sorted out a lot of transitions when the DC is resumed, as well as speeded up the docking request procedure so if it gets an early docking request granted it can head straight for the slot instead of going to the holding position first. Approach to and landing on pads has been speeded up a bit. Oh, and all the boosting distances have been thoroughly checked, so no more Clipper or T6 crashes into the station wall! Plus more obstacle avoidance has been added... so if you park your ship between the spokes of an Orbis station, it can navigate its way out.

so...when can we expect the rise of the machine overlord?

That reminds me of the terminator film franchise. And there is a new film out next month.
Sarah, you should be careful, they might send some one back in time for you, your AI genius could end up with robots taking over the world in the future, they might come to stop you before you improve the AI any more. Remember Sarah Conner.

I have tried the DC in it's various guises over the year and I now have it equipped on my ships :)

Did come close to the station in the Python (issue described above) - A bit nervous but no damage or bouncing.
Did find the Anaconda can sit in the queue for a few minutes, ended up taking control and docking manually...

Excellent so far though :)

SJA, just want to say thanks and give you a heads up in case you hadn't thought of this.

I was coming into the slot with my T9 and just got to the point where the Toaster Rack ends and the station begins, it was under my control, and I accidentally throttle back just a little too far to Zero. The DC took over and pitch the nose up Violently and went full reverse to back out. I panicked, and throttled up to regain control and get it inside. Luckily I had 4 pips in Systems, but the Grinding and Sparks caused a sudden, um... lets say Gutteral Movement. :p

What I think happened is I was not over the Threshold of the station, so the DC wanted to take me out and line me up again. Needless to say I had to use a full bottle of Persil and check and see if M&S does same day shipping if you know what I mean ;)

Yep, sorted that too. :)

Will be logical if move DC to HARDPOINTS parts... When I trade I have not extra space for DC. Shields enough for sacrifice!
Тhere is a chance that the developers think about it?

Loving the new docking computer. Been out exploring in the void for the last couple of months, came back to see the DC got one heck of an g good upgrade!

Love how it boosts on approach. Outposts in particular are great, especially how it nosedives to the pad. Had me pretty nervous the first few times I must admit. Excellent work SJA!

It still bothers me that the DC takes up a module slot that can hold at least 2 tonnes of cargo racking. I understand that having the DC simply as a software module would take away part of the decision process from outfitting because everyone would have one. But a 2 tonne cargo rack? Really?

What if we met somewhere in the middle? How about an "expanded computer core" module, the same size and class as the current DC, into which the DC and any future goodies could be added either as smaller sub-modules or as software components? Would that make exploring too easy if all of the scanners fit into a single slot? Could that be mitigated by having scanner emitters draw more power, requiring supplementary power modules that take up extra slots?

Just blue-skying here, trying to find a semi-plausible workaround for the somewhat immersion-breaking 2 tonne docking computer.

TV and docking computer. :)

Since trading is (still) not so exciting, I'm playing my routes watching TV (thanks Xbox PIP!). After some times I find very boring to dock my ship and I'm wondering if there is a docking computer on Xbox version, as I always search for it in the outfits section of every system and never found one.
Also, if there is, is it reliable or, like in Frontier, there's the risk it will crash your ship on the station wall?

So, in short words? Is there a docking computer AND is it usable or just a fun memory for Blue Danube? :)

I'm pretty sure I've seen it on one of the upgrades screens in a system that completely erased itself from my memory - so, all in all, I've not been much help to you with this comment!

I haven't looked for it on console but it comes under internal components. I've used it on PC when docking with the larger trading ships. Never had any issues with it.

I have a docking comp...got it in the Kremann system I think....been bounty hunting the RES points in that system.

Seen someone posting on the xbox bug report bit of the site that they were having issues with the docking comp. Aparrently it is unreliable in the PC version according to the ED wiki page, and thus I am guessing unreliable in the xbox version also?

Yes I can confirm there are docking computers on the Xbox

I have one on my lakon hauler

I have read various posts on various forums saying they useless and can crash your ship but so far after about 20 auto landings have had zero problems

Oh and even activate it plays classical music.

Even distorts even go through the energy field in the letter box. Cool little touch

On the PC it was a bit flakey to begin with, but Sarah Jane has worked wonders with it. I'd still not leave it to it and go afk mind you...

There is one in the PC version, and it's reliable. Try high population high tech or even industrial systems - as you would for every module. Although the DC is quite a common find on PC.

I would humbly suggest you do something that doesn't require you to watch tv on the side though.... :) like bounty hunting or combat zones, or mining or missions or... well anything else than trading. Or maybe your station distances are wrong. I never had time to watch tv when trading between stations that are both <200 ls from their suns.
