Rather dock manually that wait for all that, lol

I agree. In fact I find it way more fun docking manually.. the same can be said of a many great number of things actually.. ;-)

It's worth just trying once though. Just for the kick, and the blue Danube nostalgic memories of the original Elite

Yeah we really need the blue danube (optionally) to play once we have docking permission. I don't (and won't) use auto docking, but it would be nice to have the tune... :)

Well, the docking computer have a rich history of not being overly trustworthy.

Halfway infected by that rogue AI, I take it. ;)

They seemed to be behaving rather much like the original Elite then.

Especially as they could malfunction and smash your ship into the station.

Docking computer are supposed to take long and be boring. Otherwise there would be no advantage of docking manually, especially small ships. Docking Computer might come in handy with big ships like the Lakon Type 9 and the Anaconda.
But yeah, the AI docking sequence needs to be fixed.

Slow to dock I could live with. Spinning crazed circles outside the station until the docking permission times out I can't. Even when i lined up the docking aperture for it it still failed to dock and wandered off on a concussed spiral of its own.

Yeah. I think the Docking Procedure Officer from PBeta 1 was given a new job, as programmer for Docking Computer.

I'v been using the docking computer all day and it's not let me down.
Sometimes hitting hard on the landing pad but that's about it.

I don't see a problem really, it's not supposed to be as quick as docking yourself as confirmed by the developers and all of the lore. It won't point you in aesthetically pleasing directions because your in space and it doesn't care :)

Just shut your eyes and enjoy the music

My third visit to a space station using the docking computer and I get wiped out flying through the letter box. I suspect it was because the computer was faffing around, too slow moving through and another ship crashed into me. Its wasted hours of game play building up a trading pot. I won't bother with this item again. As far as I can tell there's no escape pod in this game, so why does it say eject? Just curious.

The docking computer is terrible at the moment. I was using it tonight because I was watching Netflix at the same time as playing. I was expecting it to crash my ship but it never did. My thinking is that despite it trying to do a backwards summersault though about 18 imaginary hoops on the way to the landing pad, it doesn't fly into the equally badly flown NPC ships. My guess is that a docking computer on a ship will happily fly into a player controlled ship under manual control. In fact the only time my ship came into contact with another ship tonight was during a quadruple north to south backflip near the docking port when a player controlled sidewinder managed not to run straight into me!

I've not tried it myself, I enjoy docking far too much but imo it should be slow!

A docking computer shouldn't have any advantage over someone manually docking, quite the reverse really.

I agree, I like docking too. But fit one and you will see that there is a definite problem with it. The AI ships that look like they are being flown by people that have downed a bottle of Vodka are probably using the same algorithm :D

That line never works for me... ;)

Nor me...

Still I can see it being handy for the huge ships that you can barely scrape thru the docking port with.. I just dont think I need it this early on, but guess I would try it.. I have tried it now about 7 or 8 times and none of those times its landed on the pad, I have had to disengage and manually land it..

Which is also fine as its pretty much lined you up but to the left of the pad.

Main reason I wanted to try it is there have been an occasional glitch when you are inside the station and its like your joystick is all out of calibration. in fact all the controls are even if you put it on mouse.. No matter what you do it wont line up with the pad (maybe sideways or backwards), Lateral thrust is all messed up... only choice is to fly out of the station, supercruise and turn around and reload the instance... Or fly out of the station, quit, reload and generally its fine.

I just wanted to see if this thing alleviates it... :D :D
