Well, I don't mind a separate control for thrust and such, it's just that most sticks I've tried at shops... they're rock solid stiff, which I can so imagine to not be at all fine for any sort of extended gameplay. Which kinds of is the reason why I'm still playing with Xbox controller.
Yeah, I hear you. CH is smooth, not stiff. It's worth checking out, at the very least.

I can vouch for CH.. I ran their yoke and rudder pedals for years back in the good old flightsim and aerowinx days. Really good gear!!

I recommend CH as well. I love my CH throttle. Am about to replace my T.16000m with a CH Combatstick. The trigger on the T.16000m is getting a bit inconsistent and it's only been a year.

I'm wondering what I am doing wrong with Joysticks because from memory I have only ever 'broken' one, a very old Saitek 3D Pro years back when I snapped the trigger playing Fleet Defender (yes, that is a looong time ago !). As far as I know my old X45 is still doing a friend good service, and My X52 Pro was in perfect working order when I got a case of the 'I want the shiny new thing' and impulse bought the X55 (which is holding up fine). how are you lot breaking all your stuff, really, I'm curious !!

Get two of these and your set :)

You know, you don't need a twisty stick for yaw! Elite has a setting that allows you to switch the axis on your stick from yaw to roll. If you go with a thrustmaster warthog stick, you can map the pinkie button to switch yaw and roll on the same axis. You can even set it up so that the axis switch only happens while you hold the button down and returns to normal when you let go. Elite has the best joystick mapping setup that I've seen in a game outside of hard core flight simulators. Better than some, actually.

I would still recommend a set of rudder pedals over this method. After getting use to using your feet for yaw, flight seems so much more intuitive and easy. It will also save you from the carpal tunnel syndrome the twisty stick will give you.

I'll throw another hat in the ring for CH being easy on the muscles; it's very easy to move around. The Fighterstick is a bit of a literal stretch for me, in regards to leaving my hand sitting on the bottom rest and reaching the top fire button at the same time, that's about the biggest issue I have, but that's also mitigated by how you iterate your control schemes and your grip position.

The upper fire button is my weapons-hot and the upper china hat is for pipping or freelook, depending, with a redundant pipper on my menu hat on the throttle. Also if you grip the stick a bit higher even for a second you can easily reach stuff even without banana-hands or blowing your control of the ship. I find both the "lazy" grip and the "combat" grip are comfortable.

I'm using a Logitech 3D extreme since 11 month now, 2-20h week. No problems so far :D

Lets see... Afrer 5 months I regularly had to recalibrate the damn thing. After 8 months the Joy 2 sometimes started getting stuck after pressing. After 10 months Joy 8,9, 10 got stuck after pressing. Since one of them is my FA off toggle, things got ugly fast. After 11 months pulling the stick towards me often only recognized a 50% of the way and now I can't make fast turns reliably anymore.

And the thing feels a lot more sturdy than that plastic toy thrustmaster hotas X I unboxed at the store this weekend.

I killed the 16000m trigger (a tiny little micro switch, not really up to the task) after 10 months. Bought another one, its only 35 quid and I love the twist.

Man, what kind of abuse are you giving your joysticks???

Wait... That came out wrong.

But seriously, my thrustmaster t.flight was served my a full year of constant use on Elite (and another year on X3) without breaking... You know slamming them harder doesn't make your ship move faster, right? ;)

I'm 197cm so I am very used to be gentle with stuff, and that joystick is the first thing to break from use for me pretty much ever. I'm pretty sure it's on the joystick

I wouldn't touch a stick without z axis. It is very convenient to yaw with a simple twist of the wrist. A hat for yaw would kill me.

I thought the same thing until I bound yaw to a single axis across both my pedal toe brakes. Apart from not having to worry about yaw on my joystick, I can take my hand off the joystick and make adjustments with my feet when on long SC journeys. It's very convenient and feels very natural. (I use a total CH Pro setup)

I'm guessing with Horizons, I'll be able to steer with my pedals while using the turret with the joystick.

The Logitech Freedom is allright, bit stiff from new but no issues really and yes, it has Z-twist.

Just make sure you have quality alkaline batteries inside, hurtling towards a star out of of control from supercruise is no fun.

The only two gripes I have with this joystick is the lump on the bottom of the handle (not very comfortable) and the tiny throttle with no centre notch. I reconfigured the throttle for scanner zoom.

I've been using an X-55 since premium beta and, for the most part, have had next to no problems with it. However, I use the 'castle' hat thumb switch for power distribution settings and this has started getting a bit loose and less 'clicky' as of late (it's even started to sag a little when in the neutral position), which has me a bit worried.

I'd go for the Warthog in a heartbeat if only it had a twist yaw. I don't particularly want to have to add pedals to my setup to get the same results.
