Twin Engine Throttle

Will Elite support control of the spaceships' twin engines with a twin engine throttle HOTAS ? :S

Only 2 votes for the fly 5 :( surely Alien and I aren't the only ones with that stick (I know Alien has this stick because its been mentioned on another thread and a twitch tv stream). Are you all filthy rich that you can afford the x52 pro :D

Oh I have one, but promptly upgraded to the X52pro, no contest. The force required to move the stick away from off centre was the driving factor in my decision. I want the ability to make very minor corrections and for me the FLY5 was not good enough.

I was hoping to go old skool and use one of these:

I'm using a X52 - got it second hand from ebay and it seems in good condition.
...Apart from the throttle seeming a bit stiff.
I don't really have a frame of reference to judge such things, but even when I completely loosen the tightness the throttle action seems a bit firm.
Is that how it should be?

X52pro, with MS Sidewinder ForceFeedback 2 as backup.

I seem to recall reading a dev comment "no" to that somewhere. Don't take that as gospel though.
Treat it as gospel.

The actual dev comment included something along the lines of "The game engine already does that, as part of the normal fly-by-wire", but its still no to dual throttle/engine support.

Full forward thrust on one engine, full reverse thrust on the other. How dizzy could you get before the ship ripped itself apart? :D

P.S. I voted for X52 Pro.

I asked that question, and I think it was Mike who said that it won't be done. That separate engine control is already implemented into the yaw apparently.

Thats correct. I remember seeing that post from Mike as well.

Can't find it at the moment, I'll have a look and see if I can find it.

Hey look at me I'm moderating for once. :D

I don't think I should have a performance advantage from owning a dual-thrust controller, but for the quality of immersion (and maybe even some precision) I really hope I can yaw with thrusters rather than using a Hat or twist-stick.

Rudder pedals an option?

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Try operating the throttle forward and back a dozen times quickly over its full range. If that doesn't work, it's probably just too viscous a grease.

Taking it apart, wiping the old stuff off and applying a lower viscosity *plastics friendly* grease shouldn't be too difficult.

Probably silicone or lithium, but make sure it's plastic safe. Don't use WD40, 3 in 1 or anything that doesn't say it's ok with plastics!

Something like THIS or THIS. Probably available from your local car bits and pieces shop or Halfords too.

Note that silicone grease should *NOT* be used for metal to metal lubrication, it tends to seize parts.

More expense :(
There are a zillion DIY versions using old gamepad or joystick electronics and nothing more than bits and pieces. Might be worth having a go.
