@drew - what is your current theory? Do you still think it is close to the bubble and there might be a puzzle to be solved in the original Elite worlds?

I really don't know what to think nowadays to be honest. I've always been enthusiastic about the background lore of Elite and have always stressed how important I thought it was. Michael Brooks certainly shared that view in the formative years. Since his departure from ED (though not from Frontier) that importance seems to have waned.

I would love to think that there is a puzzle about Raxxla baked into the game and based on the 'old lore' of Elite, but my faith in that is waning after all this time.

For example. To me, the cornerstone of Elite lore is the Tionisla Orbital Graveyard, promised in v2.2 of ED. It never materialised then and hasn't been mentioned since. The TOGY is where Elite 'starts' from a lore perspective. To have it 'not exist' in game is rather like a LOTR game having Gondor but no Minas Tirith, or a Star Wars game having Tatooine but no Mos Eisley. It's an iconic location for Elite.

That absence suggests to me that the lore doesn't have the continuance from the original games I would have liked to have seen and that the lore became less important (or perhaps de-prioritised) from around that version of ED. Since then the storytelling emphasis has been on 'personal narrative', which is something of a non-sequitor to my way of thinking.

I suspect Raxxla will either be done as a end-game 'hurrah' in a few years time, or it will be 'the journey' we were all on, or some such. Perhaps it will be part of the 2020 update. Your guess is as good as mine. :)

TL;DR - Not sure. Suspect there isn't one, atleast at the moment.

Cheers,

Drew.

The first thing I did after reading the dark wheel was go to tionisla to try to follow Ryder's footsteps. I thought the cobra 3 signal would be dark wheel or raxxla related but it wasn't. Feels like that would have been a good starting point.

I definitely did not write 'poopoo'. ;)

You know, if there's one thing I've learnt from writing in Elite Dangerous, it's never ignore a poopoo. I knew a CMDR, who got poopood, made the mistake of ignoring the poopoo. He poopoode it! Fatal error! 'Cos it turned out all along that the CMDR who poopood him had been poopooing a lot of other CMDRs who poopood their poopoos. In the end, we had to disband GalNet. Morale totally destroyed... by poopoo!

* With apologies to General Melchett.

Drew.
Books added to cart. 🤓

I just like the fact that a wonderful ( too soon lost ) writer such as Robert Holdstock has left a legacy that has encapsulated the minds and imagination in Elite. I expect he did not even remotely consider the hold and grasp his Raxxla legacy and the amazing adventure in his Dark Wheel novella in years to come. Even his Alien Worlds book ( that i had on my shelf from the 80's and had no idea it was him ) watered the garden where my imagination grows. I will still hunt for Raxxla. It's part of the journey.

Raxxla is the journey, when you realise that you spiral down into the Dark Wheel of despair
No. Even if it is the journey its a fun and interesting one where I learn something new about math, astronomy, history, physics or ancient mythology. Its pew pew, another bug zapped, combat rating up another 1% that is depressing me! Lol. How badly do I want triple elite? 🤔

Just what I have been saying. Raxxla (the genuine) has left ED when MB was put aside and the E/F missions taken off.
All the lore and "clues" prior to the Codex must be retconned, imho. Myth, door and key, place that isn't, portal to other universes, twisted men, journey, etc...
The Cobra III signals were Formidine Rift - because DrewW (as stated above) loves the Tionisla Graveyard.
Lot of ghosts in the graveyards..

I understand your thinking. I spent months looking for Raxxla in the Rift because, imho, both concepts fitted so well.
But, for a few months, we know that the FR mYsTeRy has never been allowed to include Raxxla. FD orders.
A pity.

It's one of my biggest regrets that I never got to meet Robert Holdstock.

I was fortunate enough to find out there that is a bench (with a plaque dedicated to him) in a woodland in Kent a few years back. I went on a bit of a pilgrimage there and wrote it up on my blog. Unfortunately the pictures have gone awol (I'll try to locate them) but you can get a sense of my thoughts about it all. The links are busted too, I'll try to update the article when I find the photos.

RH deserves FD showing respect to his creation and implementing in ED a "Raxxla" and a "The Dark Wheel" in agreement with the original lore.
Err.. Actually, I just want a new uncharted galaxy to explore... please ?

I said on here, some time ago, I hoped FD had made the search for Raxxla an homage to Robert Holdstock. I still hope but somehow now doubt this is the case.
Still trying to get around to my own tribute by visiting anything in game with his name (or one of his aliases)
