As I have indicated, I have noticed that there are several little problems with the Limpet drones. Mainly, they appear to get hung up in the geometry of the game. This could be solved with a slight programming fix.. You could actually make each Limpet have the ability to go into No Clipping mode...
With the August holidays, the tropical heat, and Edmund Mahon writing making me procrastinate…
I release this short humorous jingle about Limpets…
Happy holidays everyone.....
CMDR O7
Just went out to the brain trees to top up on some mats (Yttrium and Tellurium). Plenty to find in the usual locations, but it looks like the Flak Launcher will no longer drop the fruit. I only had (Xmas color) modified Flak Launchers but no matter how much I bombed the tree's, nothing fell off...
U16 changed behaviour of limpets... it seems that HATCH BREAKERS have been some how affected.
They are way less effective, as they're not able to get close enough to the target ship unless it is almost totally stationary... breakers keep floating around and/or expire 99% ot times f ship is...
Pirates could have data-mining limpets to steal & acquire exploration data from exploration ships.
A data scanner would be helpful to determine what kind of data and what volume is on any given ship.
Collector Limpet - Derelict ship recovery
Pirates have been looking for ways to stabilize their targets to effectively hatch-break and steal the cargo. Allow a Collector limpet targeted at a ship to provide this function.
we don't have acceleration figures for the collector limpets, but they...
Can you all please add contributions confirming this?

"Cannot spawn prospectors once mining multi-limpet controller has four limpets out"
Additional Info: Once you have spawned one propsector and three collectors from the mining...
Currently a Refueling Limpet restores one ton of fuel on the target ship. I propose the Refueling/Rearming Limpet transfers one ton of fuel or rearms one hardpoint based on the system that's sub-targeted on the target ship.
Dropping in on distress signals is a nice little bit of flavour in between bigger tasks, however, the current mechanic of them means you often drop in on an activity that it turns out you cannot participate in just because you don't have the right limpet controller, and the countdown timer (and...
So, I have a suggestion based on me staring at the controllers while I'm mining. Doesn't just have to be for mining, but this would be extremely helpful. Please refer to the screenshot below:
Where I've highlighted green, I think controllers that have timers attached to the limpets should be...
This is something I noticed since when I started playing. The limpet gameplay is cool, so damn cool I'd never change the way it works gameplay wise.
There is tho one point I'd like to bring to discussion.
I am pretty sure that 1 thousand and 2 hundred years ahead of now, we would have a...
Limpets for some reason in their path finding hug a asteroid as closely as they can since the AI is like "That's the fastest path". What this means if that if a asteroid is rotating, they won't account for the rotation so they bump into the asteroid and "expire". The asteroid will rotate and the...
Limpet ideas are making the rounds again, and I believe I have one that is novel. So, my suggestion to revamp the whole limpet game, stop me if you've heard this one:
Model limpet controllers after SLF Hangars
--Each module will contain limpet slots for selecting limpet types. For example, a...
Hello!
I wanted to take a break from mining, REZes and deep space exploration so I was just jumping between systems, going after the more unsual signal sources - especially the distress signals and I started to run into a really frustrating thing.
I get to the signal position, find a ship and...
Ive just started void mining with the ASP, the first time was fine but since then the limpets seem to be glitching out, aswell as the Void opels themselves. The limpets either expire when returning to the ship or just dont work at all... So i then tried good old manual collection, the opels seem...
Can we PLEASE change how collector behave, or make them much more durable? I literally just spent 3 limpets per painite collected, because they always just went face-first into the nearby rocks. Some of them even got some painite stuck INSIDE the rocks, making them unreachable... (This is an...
Hello mates.
This new suggestion is about... limpets!
Yes, those tiny things that die at the slightest bump into an asteroid! Those tiny things that, like condoms, are one timed and tossed away!
FDevs, are you aware of how much debris your game design is creating around the bubble? I'm pretty...
Unified Limpet Drone Control System and Drone System Revamp.
I would like to propose both a revamp of limpet system and how they behave and function as well as a Unified Controller. I thought on this for a while and I realize there are classes and grades to consider, and multi crew...
As now there is only one type of limpet.. you get in the hardware store in most stations and its pretty cheap.
They can repair, probe, transfer fuel and so on and on ..
To control this litte buggers you need a computer that takes up a huge part of your ship, depending on what tasks the limpet...
With mining being a ton more enjoyable thanks to the recent changes, it's still lacking a little bit in the multicrew department. Collector limpets are all well and good, but moving an Anaconda around an exposed asteroid core to get an abrasion blaster hit, that's pretty annoying. Hell it's even...
The proximity warning would be an useful and immersive tool for miners to try and avoid bumping into things outside of their field of vision, however, collector limpets constantly trigger the warning when near.
This makes the proximity warning useless for its actual purpose, as it's active...
So, following the forum and all thread opened asking for, it seems that a great part of the player base is toward a unified limpet controller. Many aspect of the current limpet controllers are very unbelievable from a realistic point of view (such as their weight!) and, obviously, are more like...
Limpets as currently implemented are a vital mechanic for effective completion of game missions. As currently implemented, only a few limpet types are necessary on a regular basis. Other limpet types are not as critical and are widely ignored because of the disproportionate load they put on ship...
The whole debate of infinite probes has me thinking, why not infinite limpets? Hold on, let me explain, as it actually makes a ton of sense.
Ignoring the prospector limpet (I'll get to this), limpets are finite because they expire. There's really no reason for this. My SRV doesn't "expire", nor...
Limpets are an important tool for interacting with the environment in Elite, but having them split into eight different modules means artificial limitations on how we can interact with NPCs and the environment. After all, how frustrating is it to come across something interesting, like a...
First off... credit to FDev for the change in the materials & data storage system in 3.0, having per-item storage caps and the ability to add materials to an ignore list are great features. However, I have a few suggestions on how this system could be made even better for the serious materials...
The sensors on a ship are, unfortunately, one of the least valuable modules on it. They contribute very little to the actual ship (especially when compared to other core internals like distributors and thrusters). This irrelevance leads to a situation where sensors are picked solely based on...
You can check out another collection-centered thread here, the material collector limpet: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/430392-Material-Collector-Limpet-Controller...
My x52 HOTAS have more buttons than I know what to do with. I would love it if I could assign 3 different buttons/actions into one fire group instead of the two action cap. Lets say your mining; one fire group could hold the prospecting limpet, collector limpet, and the mining laser all in one...
I recently dipped my toes into mining, and by far the most frustrating aspect of it is the unreliability of the Collector Limpets.
I fill-up my 256T cargo with 80% limpets and I am run out of limpets before filling it up with canisters.
- Sometimes, I launch 8 limpets and they all expire...
There are a lot of small sized modules and more are on there way by the sounds of it in Beyond Chapter 4. I'm talking about the scanners and limpet systems. It's a shame to imagine a size 1 scanner taking up a whole size 3 or 4 slot especially when you can get 16 tonnes in the same space.
I've...
In space:
Rocks/Fragments:
-each rock has had a chance to produce a max of 100 or more fragments (up from what seems 12)
-fragment increase is influenced by size and number of mining lasers
Refinery:
-Allow a max of 2 refineries (up from 1)
Limpets:
-Allow a size 6 -7 modules
-Limpet number...
I think that limpets are a great idea that is unfortunately hampered by it's execution. There's far too much unnecessary complexity involved with the use of limpets, making using them a more annoying prospect then it need to be. The biggest problem in this regard is the fact that limpets have...
Good evening...
The suggestion is quite simple:
- Instead of having different controllers for each limpet drone kind, we use the same device for all of them and we would carry various types on our cargo hold... this would enable players to spare module slots and be able to make better use of...
After doing lots of material scouring about the cosmos for every bit of goodness I can use for synthesis, as well as engineering it occurred to me.
LIMPETS ARE AWFUL!
It often takes longer to collect loot with limpets than it takes to liberate them from either the bum of an Anaconda, or a...
Currently, Pirates will try to loot valuable cargo from your ship if it has a high enough value. That value floor is pretty low, with responses from holding certain low value items along the lines of, "You're not worth my time", and responses from holding only Limpets being the same as responses...
I know there is already exists post like this, but still...
ATM we have:
Prospector limpet
Collector limpet
Hatchbreaker limpet
Recon limpet
Fuel transfer limpet
Decontamination limpet
Repair limpet
Research limpet
And for some of those limpets even have engineering blueprints.
So i have a...
So, I think it might be time to rethink how limpets work in the game. Currently (and in the beta) there are
Prospector limpet
Collector limpet
Hatchbreaker limpet
Repair limpet
Recon limpet
Fuel transfer limpet
Decontamination limpet
Research limpet
It's starting to get a bit out of control...
Limpets are one of the few ways Cmdrs have of directly interacting with other ships, whether NPC or player, and have the potential to make for interesting interactions (e.g. the Fuel Rats!) but limpet controllers are strangely specialized. Controllers all use the same limpets, but demand their...
