I had a big grin on my face due to reminiscence the whole docking procedure :)

Well done, its exactly what I wanted and I'm so happy to have it in the game :D

If you can't dock manually without scraping your paintwork then you don't deserve to be in space.....

Having looked at the vids, I now know why there are ships doing stupid maneuvers in stations.

This is one autopilot that needs some more lessons in flying.

My thoughts exactly :D

I've seen quite a lot of AI ships now driving into each other's rear ends, jostling shields until one explodes and the station takes the other out...

I'll be sticking with manual docking I think - it's safer. And faster. And generally less full of pew-pew :)

So it just flies you straight down the middle of the docking port. Tremendous; that's not going to cause any problems at all, is it?

I'd be more interested in docking once through the port. It seems to spend too much time clowning around outside.

I sold mine, disappointed when it took 4 times longer than manual dock and very sad it didn't play Blue Danube!
Will come in handy on the big Lakon though.

Actually, it does... But the video I watched had it playing from the second half of the composition, the one that doesn't get played at all in previous Elite games (but is in 2001).

Just bought one to try it.

It went through the slot sideways, :D Might have activated it a bit near the station.

Oh and it did play Blue Danube...

So either nostalgia and a 5 minute docking process or 4 pips to engine, full throttle and docked in 30 seconds... ooooh thats a toughie....

Good lord it takes and absolute age for it to dock. It's like its being flown by a drunken Ja-Ja Binks wearing boxing gloves and roller skates! ;)

I'm sure some judicious tweaking will be forthcoming! :D

Wait until planetary landings come in, the docking computer will be a godsend for that! Approaching a planets Landing port at high speed, taking into account planet rotation and atmosphere is much harder than docking at a Spaceport or Satellite.

Just get to the opening to dock, within 5km. Request landing permissions at a stop, and it will automatically activate and take you in.

That's terrible! Won't be wasting 4.5k on that then

Since we saw in the newsletter stuff about the ZP hauler and its sales, be funny to see a blurb later about the autodock manufacturer and some recall due to a massive error in the factory.

It looked the docking computer wasn't working properly in the Russian video so maybe that is why it took so long. When it got close to the docking port it was quite fast and it was faster to land on a pad than I could do manually. I guess you could always manually fly your ship near the port and let the computer do the rest.

Awesome tune

For those of you old enough to remember it and the film it was in, what an awesome tune to have playing whilst the computer docks you up, made me chuckle (small things and all that) ;)

actually it only docks, you still need to be able to get out of the station manually and so people will still need to get that part sorted.

But it is fairly quick when I have timed it, anywhere between 45sec and 2mins so far.

I love the docking computer and it's great for when I am just feeling too lazy, or am putting the kettle on - but it would be nice to be able to have the option to manually dock instead, same as in original Elite.

I hope there will be a choice for different music. I was never a fan of Blue Danube and classical in Elite or any space game.
